2026 ISPS HANDA Senior Open Heads Back to Gleneagles’ King’s Course

Gleneagles is set to welcome Europe’s only Senior Major Championship back to its storied fairways, and it’s no mere rerun of past glories.

When the ISPS HANDA Senior Open returns to the King’s Course from July 23–26, 2026, the Perthshire resort will once again prove why it’s one of golf’s most revered stages.

A Return to a Champion’s Playground

It was here in 2022 that Northern Irishman Darren Clarke etched his name into history—becoming just the fourth player ever to lift both The Open and the Senior Open, edging out Pádraig Harrington by a single stroke.

With memories of that dramatic finish still fresh, anticipation is already building among fans and players alike.

Gleneagles’ Legacy of Major Moments

Since opening its doors in 1924, Gleneagles has hardly sat idle. Three Championship courses have hosted no fewer than 26 DP World Tour events, the 2014 Ryder Cup and the 2019 Solheim Cup.

On both occasions—the Ryder Cup under Paul McGinley’s guidance and Catriona Matthew’s thrilling Solheim Cup victory—Europe emerged triumphant. These triumphs aren’t footnotes; they’re the marrow of Gleneagles’ identity.

“We look forward to Gleneagles staging the ISPS HANDA Senior Open for a second time in 2026. The King’s Course has a rich history of hosting leading championships and we know the players will enjoy the thrill of competing there, just as they did in 2022.”

Nearly every nook of The King’s Course whispers legends, from James Braid’s heathland contours to the century-old pines that frame the fairways.

It’s no surprise that former Scottish Open winners—Thomas Bjørn, Søren Kjeldsen, Paul Lawrie and Ian Woosnam—now grace the Legends Tour, drawn back by hallowed turf and history in every bunker.

Building on Tradition, Eyeing the Future

“Three years ago, Gleneagles proved itself a more than worthy host venue of Europe’s only Senior Major Championship and we are delighted to announce our return their next year,” says Edward Kitson, Championship Director of the ISPS HANDA Senior Open.

The King’s Course, he adds, “is rated by many as one of the best in the country,” and will again challenge the game’s iconic figures to raise their games.

Scotland’s Sporting Showcase

Scotland’s tourism chiefs see the event as more than a tournament. “Hosting the Senior Open is a celebration our heritage as the home of golf and highlights the strength of our world-class portfolio of sporting and cultural events,” notes Rob Dickson of VisitScotland.

He’s right: every tee shot, each roar of the gallery, bolsters the visitor economy and cements Scotland’s standing on the global stage.

Gleneagles Speaks

“Welcoming back the ISPS HANDA Senior Open is both an honour and a continuation of that tradition,” says Conor O’Leary, Managing Director at Gleneagles.

“We look forward to hosting some of the game’s legendary players on The King’s Course—a timeless James Braid heathland classic that celebrated its centenary in 2019—as it once again provides the setting for world-class professional golf.”

A Championship Worth Waiting For

First contested in 1987, the ISPS HANDA Senior Open unites stars from the Legends Tour’s Order of Merit and the PGA TOUR Champions’ Charles Schwab Cup.

Its roll call reads like a hall of fame: the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal County Down, Carnoustie and Royal Portrush have all borne witness to its drama.

When the field assembles at Gleneagles in July 2026, they’ll be chasing more than a trophy—they’ll be part of a living tradition.

Fans, mark your calendars. The King’s Course awaits, its bunkers primed and its fairways ready to crown the next Senior Open champion at Gleneagles—where the past and future of golf converge in perfect harmony.
