“Buzzing for The Belfry”: Willett and Brown Return Home

If the British Masters is golf’s version of Glastonbury, then The Belfry is its Pyramid Stage—and this August, the headline acts are pulling no punches.

Englishman Dan Brown, fresh off his second DP World Tour win at the BMW International Open, is set to return to the Betfred British Masters alongside 2016 Masters champion and two-time tournament host Danny Willett.

The event, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, will take place from August 21–24, 2025, at the iconic Brabazon Course in Sutton Coldfield.

This year’s British Masters is more than just another stop on the DP World Tour. It signals the start of the Back 9 in the Race to Dubai and serves as the final chance for hopefuls to earn automatic qualification for Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team. In short: if you’ve got something to prove, this is where you do it.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for the Betfred British Masters,” said Brown, who seems to be finding a new gear with each passing week. “It’s one of those events you grow up watching as an English golfer, and to now be playing it, especially having won for the second time on the DP World Tour recently, is a really special feeling. The Belfry is an iconic venue and I can’t wait for the test of the Brabazon.”

Brown won’t be the only familiar face stalking the fairways. Willett, who famously slipped on the Green Jacket at Augusta in 2016, returns to a tournament he’s not only played but also hosted—with distinction—in 2021 and 2022.

“The Betfred British Masters is a tournament that means a lot to me,” said Willett. “Hosting it in 2021 and 2022 was a real honour and I’ve always felt the support from fans has been incredible. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and hopefully putting in a strong performance.”

Willett also paid tribute to this year’s host, Sir Nick Faldo: “I passed the baton to Sir Nick a couple of years ago and he has taken it from strength to strength. I’ve seen firsthand what goes into hosting an event of this size and it is no mean feat, so credit to him and Lady Lindsay for all the time and effort they put in to elevate the experience for both players and fans.”

And if that wasn’t enough to whet the appetite, the 2025 field looks as stacked as a Sunday roast at the clubhouse. Joining the ranks are 2022 U.S. Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick, defending British Masters champion Niklas Nørgaard, Ryder Cup Captain Donald, and American Ryder Cup Vice Captain Brandt Snedeker, who makes his debut in the event.

The British Masters has always been one of the crown jewels of the DP World Tour’s calendar. This year marks the 22nd time The Belfry has hosted a DPWT event—a run that dates back to the 1979 Lada English Golf Classic, when a certain Seve Ballesteros hoisted the trophy and changed the face of European golf.

With so much on the line—Ryder Cup hopes, Race to Dubai points, and a chance to tame one of the most storied courses in the UK—the 2025 Betfred British Masters is shaping up to be a must-watch.
