24-Under Chaos: Jarvis and Botha Trade Haymakers in Sunshine Tour Shootout

The Vodacom Origins of Golf finale served up the kind of drama even seasoned golf fans don’t dare expect, and Casey Jarvis didn’t blink. The 21-year-old South African claimed his second win in three weeks on the Sunshine Tour after outlasting Barend Botha in a playoff that could’ve doubled as a stress test for the human heart.

Jarvis closed regulation with a slick 65 to join Botha—who answered with a 64—at 24-under-par. Between them, they turned the final stretch at Pezula Golf Estate into a heavyweight contest with matching twos at the par-four 17th and identical birdies up the last. If anyone in Knysna fancied an early Sunday finish, the players had other plans.

Then it went up a notch.

The playoff became a duel in stereo. Both men birdied the par-five 18th not once, but twice, trading blows like golfers who’d decided pride mattered as much as prize money. On the third go-around, Jarvis finally cracked the code—burying an eagle while Botha answered with yet another birdie. That tiny flicker of daylight was all Jarvis needed.

This win follows hot on the heels of his Hyundai Open triumph in early November, pushing him to eighth on the Sunshine Tour’s Courier Guy Order of Merit and firmly into “serious contender” territory. It’s also his second victory since joining forces with new caddie Conrad Loubser—brother of Sunshine Tour pro Herman Loubser—whose presence seems to have steadied Jarvis’ pace at exactly the right moment.

With the Fitch & Leedes PGA Championship looming—where he finished runner-up in 2022—Jarvis arrives not just confident, but dangerous.

The final showdown was a fitting conclusion to a week dripping in talent. The Vodacom Origins of Golf event produced two holes-in-one, two rounds of 62 (one from Jarvis, one from Bryce Easton), and a second-nine 29 from Jarvis that would have made a metronome blush. Even the cut made headlines—six under par, the lowest on the Sunshine Tour this season.

Christiaan Burke, who opened the week playing like he owned Pezula Golf Estate outright, shared third place with Albert Venter after both signed for closing 67s to finish at 23 under.

In a season full of fireworks, Jarvis is starting to look like the lad carrying the matchbox.
