Ice in the Veins: Jarvis Drains Final Putt for First Win At The 2025 Hyundai Open

Casey Jarvis clinched his long-awaited maiden Sunshine Tour title at the Hyundai Open on Sunday, holding off close friend and fellow South African Ryan van Velzen after a dramatic final day at Ebotse Links.

Jarvis carded a superb four-under-par 68 to finish on 23 under for the week, sealing a one-shot victory in the tournament sponsored by Hyundai. It was a breakthrough performance for the 21-year-old, who has been on the cusp of a win all season.

“Winning is not easy and Ryan didn’t make it very easy for me. It’s hard beating a friend, and he’s a close friend of mine. But I am very happy with my win today,” said Jarvis, clutching the trophy with a grin as wide as the fairways he tamed.

His caddie, Conrad Loubser, also walked away a winner, earning the tournament’s prestigious caddie medallion after guiding Jarvis through the swirling winds and pressure-packed final holes.

Van Velzen pushed him all the way, finishing on 22 under thanks to a spirited late charge that included birdies on two of his last three holes. The 23-year-old nearly forced a playoff but narrowly missed his birdie putt on the 18th, leaving Jarvis to make a steady par for the title.

“I was a bit nervous with that final putt – I won’t lie. I’ve had a few second places on tour, so to finally get it done is unbelievable,” admitted Jarvis, his relief and pride evident after years of near misses.

Sunshine Tour rookie Warwick Purchase continued to impress with another strong performance, closing with a 68 to finish third on 20 under par. His consistency this season keeps him in second place in the Fortress Rookie of the Year standings and boosts him to eighth on the Courier Guy Order of Merit.

Adding a touch of flair to the Hyundai Open, veteran Jean Hugo walked away with more than pride — he won a brand-new Hyundai Exeter after sticking his tee shot just 74 centimetres from the pin on the par-three 11th.

“That shot was a bit nerve-wracking, but I managed to pull it in there quite close, so I’m very happy,” Hugo said with a smile.

The Hyundai Open delivered everything golf fans could ask for — precision, pressure, and a healthy dose of heart. And for Casey Jarvis, it was more than just a trophy — it was validation that his time on the Sunshine Tour has well and truly arrived.
