Rory, Tyrrell, Tommy, Viktor, Shane and DJ Set To Turn 2026 Dubai Desert Classic Into Ryder Cup 2.0

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic isn’t easing into 2026—it’s kicking the door clean off the hinges. Within the first two sentences of any conversation about the tournament, you’ll hear the same thing: it’s shaping up to be one of the fiercest early-season tests anywhere in the world. And with Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry and Dustin Johnson all signing on the dotted line, the field looks more like a Ryder Cup reunion than a January warm-up.

Europe’s heroes Hovland and Lowry will be back alongside Tyrrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, while Johnson—who knows his way around a major trophy cabinet—adds that unmistakable swagger as he tees it up at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic for the first time. For a Rolex Series opener, it’s about as stacked as it gets.

Lowry arrives still riding the buzz from holing that monstrous putt at Bethpage Black, the one that slammed the door shut on the Americans and cemented his place in Ryder Cup folklore. His return marks a milestone too—his 10th appearance at the Emirates Golf Club, and his first since 2023.

“There were some incredible moments in 2025, particularly at Bethpage Black, and now I’m looking forward to getting 2026 off to a positive start by returning to Dubai for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. I’ve played this tournament many times over the years and I always love being back at Emirates Golf Club. It’s a fantastic way to start the year.”

Hovland, meanwhile, walks into Dubai with the confidence of a man who’s already lifted the Dallah Trophy. The Norwegian rediscovered his winning touch at the Valspar Championship last season, then bolstered Europe’s campaign with surgical precision in New York.

“Winning here in 2022 was really cool, and it’s always a great place to start the year,” said Hovland. “The tournament is one of the highlights of the season – great golf course, great weather, and I’m looking forward to competing for the trophy again.”

Then there’s Johnson—two majors, 135 weeks as World Number One, and a Ryder Cup record that tells you everything you need to know about competitive grit. He famously went 5–0 at Whistling Straits in 2021, a feat no American had matched in more than four decades. Now he heads to the Majlis Course for the first time, already eyeing up the trophy.

“I’m really looking forward to playing the Hero Dubai Desert Classic for the first time,” said Johnson. “I’ve heard great things about the event and Emirates Golf Club. When you look at past champions like Seve, Tiger and Rory, you know it’s a really prestigious tournament with incredible history. I’m excited to compete for the Dallah Trophy and be part of what is always a world-class field.”

Tournament Director Simon Corkill isn’t pretending this is anything other than a blockbuster signing spree.

“To welcome three global superstars of this calibre to the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic is incredibly exciting. Viktor and Shane were heroes at Bethpage Black, while Dustin’s Major championship pedigree speaks for itself. With this being Dustin’s first professional tour event in Dubai, we’re thrilled to showcase Emirates Golf Club to one of the game’s biggest names. Alongside Tyrrell, Tommy and Rory, the quality and depth of our field continues to strengthen as we head into what promises to be an exceptional 37th edition.”

Golf, yes—but the party off the fairways isn’t exactly subtle either

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic has become one of Dubai’s biggest social weekends for good reason. Tournament Town returns with everything from live music to food trucks to family zones—basically, if you’re bored, you haven’t walked far enough.

The event also keeps its GEO certification for the third straight year, reinforcing its push for sustainability. Eco-friendly transport routes stay front and centre, and Emirates Golf Club’s placement right next to the metro means fans can ditch the car and skip the car park chaos.

Tickets, hospitality and where the real indulgence happens

General admission stays free on Thursday and Friday, and only AED 100 pre-event on the weekend (AED 125 on the day). Kids 17 and under get in free all week with a registered ticket and an accompanying adult.

The Social on Sixteen—already a crowd favourite—doubles in size this year. Four hours of free-flowing drinks, premium food and a balcony overlooking one of the most electric par-threes in world golf. Prices start at AED 695 across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

For those who like their golf with linen napkins and skyline views, The Dallah Lounge sits between the ninth and 18th greens, serving gourmet food and top-tier hospitality starting from AED 2,100.

As the oldest professional golf tournament in the Middle East and a flagship Rolex Series event, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic enters its 37th edition with more firepower—and more expectation—than ever.
