From Lioness to Links: Carly Telford Backs iGolf’s Female-First Campaign

By all accounts, golf has long been a sport riddled with unwritten rules, whispering “members only” to anyone without the right shoes or a postcode ending in a vowel. But iGolf, the only platform offering a Handicap Index® to independent golfers in England, has just served notice that those days are numbered—at least for women who are ready to take the game into their own hands.

In a fresh swing at tradition, iGolf has launched its new campaign, It’s Your Game, a rallying cry for independent female golfers across the UK.

The campaign aims to share powerful stories from women already embracing the sport outside the clubhouse clique, proving that you don’t need a locker key or a tartan blazer to belong on the course.

And it’s not just for show. iGolf is actively calling on its female subscribers to step up and share how the platform has helped them take ownership of their golfing journey—whether that means shooting for a sub-90 or just swinging in peace on a Sunday morning.

The heart of the It’s Your Game campaign lies in real-life stories—no marketing fluff, just honest accounts of how iGolf gives women access to a Handicap Index®, freedom to play on their own terms, and a way to track progress without needing to commit to a club membership. Flexibility, freedom, and a fresh sense of purpose—that’s the new fairway to inclusion.

One of the headline stories features former Lioness Carly Telford, who swapped the penalty box for the tee box after retiring from professional football. Her experience captures the spirit of the campaign: “When I retired, I was looking for something that gave me a focus – something for me,” says Telford. “Golf has been that outlet.

iGolf helped me track my progress, build confidence, and enjoy the game at my own pace. I love the freedom it gives me to play when and where it suits me, with no pressure, just pure enjoyment. For many people, it’s a great way to get into golf on their own terms, and it can even be the perfect stepping stone into club membership if that works for them further down the line.”

Claire Hodgson, Head of iGolf/iPlay, echoes that sentiment with a nod to the evolving face of the sport: “There’s no one way to play golf anymore,” she says.

“With iGolf, we’re offering women a flexible way to play—one that fits around their life, helps them track progress, and feel part of the game. This campaign is all about celebrating the freedom to play your way and show how golf can work for all.”

In short, iGolf isn’t just handing women a scorecard—they’re giving them the whole game plan. The platform lets players participate with purpose, build confidence, and engage with the sport on their own terms.

And in an era when more women are looking for community, wellbeing, and flexibility in everything from workouts to workweeks, golf is quietly becoming a sanctuary for them—one fairway at a time.

This campaign also forms part of England Golf’s wider mission to open the gates of the game to more women and girls. With more than 1,800 affiliated golf clubs and facilities on its roster, the organisation is determined to foster a more inclusive, supportive space for everyone who wants to play.

Women across the country are encouraged to join the It’s Your Game movement by sharing their stories using the hashtag #ItsYourGame and visiting the official campaign page to learn more.

For those who thought golf was just a boys’ club wrapped in etiquette and irony—iGolf has teed up a new reality. The game is changing. And this time, it’s hers.
