LET Headquarters The Buckinghamshire Undergoes Major Championship Renovation

The Buckinghamshire Golf Club, you know the one!! That stately slice of golfing real estate just ten miles from Heathrow and a five-iron from the River Colne is teeing up a £3 million transformation to futureproof its championship course and keep the fairways rolling year-round.

Already a proud host of Ladies European Tour events and past qualifying venues for The Open and US Women’s Open, Buckinghamshire Golf Club isn’t just polishing its silverware — it’s relaying the entire trophy cabinet.

The spring saw a complete facelift of all 68 riveted bunkers. Now, the club is digging even deeper — quite literally — with over 100,000 linear metres of piped and secondary drainage being installed to counter the increasingly sodden tantrums of the British winter.

But this isn’t just a cosmetic nip and tuck. It’s a full-blown performance-enhancing operation, designed to keep players, members, and Mother Nature on good terms.

“Our members’ playing experience is paramount, which is why this is an important investment,” said Managing Director Gerry Ivers, as pragmatically as a man watching the heavens open over a waterlogged green.

“The frequency of wetter winters is increasing due to climate change, so we are taking steps to ensure playing conditions remain at a very high standard all year round.”

And those steps are more than symbolic. Among the upgrades is a freshly constructed championship tee for the club’s iconic finishing hole — a testing par-three that dances alongside the River Colne.

It’s now stretched to 220 yards from the new back tees, a final act that will demand more than just a pretty swing.

Meanwhile, a complete upgrade to the practice range is on the cards, with high-tech performance systems, reshaped target zones, and pristine new hitting surfaces to help members dial in their games — or at least blame the tech when they don’t.

If the course is getting a facelift, the clubhouse already had its glow-up. The Arora Group — owners of Buckinghamshire Golf Club — poured £10 million into a major restoration of the historic 17th-century estate in 2024.

It now features seven luxury bedroom suites, perfect for London-based or international members who fancy a retreat where the wine cellar is as refined as the putting stroke.

“With the wonderful support from our owners, the Arora Group, there is complete focus on facilities at The Buckinghamshire for our members and their guests, both on and off the golf course,” Ivers added.

And it’s not all drainage and digital shot trackers. The first tee area is being reimagined to include a compact warm-up green, giving groups a chance to settle their nerves and their bets before heading off.

Meanwhile, the bunkers — now filled with 750 tonnes of hand-shovelled China clay sand — have been reshaped with shorter, native rye caps around their edges, ditching the longer fescues for cleaner lines and more playable lies.

“The renovation of the bunkers and the return to shorter, native rye caps around their edges… is something we are especially pleased with,” said Ivers. “Our greenkeeping team played an important role in this work and it has significantly improved definition and playability.”

Designed by the late John Jacobs — a master craftsman of course architecture and PGA pedagogy — The Buckinghamshire Golf Club first opened in 1992 and has since built a reputation as a refined retreat for those who appreciate immaculate turf as much as a well-timed draw shot.

And in this latest chapter, it’s clear the Buckinghamshire isn’t resting on reputation — it’s driving headlong into a future where tradition meets technology, luxury meets sustainability, and soggy lies are consigned to history.

So, whether you’re a seasoned scratch golfer or a hopeful fourballer praying for fair weather and a forgiving bounce, one thing’s certain: The Buckinghamshire is investing in a playing experience that’s as smart as it is stylish.
