The Loubser brothers have pulled off something you don’t see often on the Sunshine Tour: both ending up as winners in the same season, even if their victories came from opposite sides of the ropes. The Loubser brothers aren’t just sharing DNA—they’re sharing momentum.
In August, Herman Loubser grabbed the Vodacom Origins of Golf title at Parys Golf & Country Estate, swinging like a man who’d rather let his clubs do the talking. Then, in November, his younger brother Conrad popped up in an entirely different capacity—shouldering the bag for Casey Jarvis at The Hyundai Open at Ebotse Links, and steering him straight into the winner’s circle.
Now, both find themselves back in the mix this week at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Final at Pezula Golf Estate, trading family banter for fairway business.
Herman doesn’t bother dressing up the family history.
“Conrad was a very good junior golfer and won a few tournaments. Then he caddied for me for a while on the Sunshine Tour and on the HotelPlanner Tour,” the 26-year-old said of his 20-year-old brother. You can almost hear the pride buried under the blunt honesty.
And he’s not shy about admitting he wasn’t the easiest boss on the bag.
“It was the beginning of his caddie career, and I was quite hard on him. After all, he’s my younger brother. Then he also caddied for Kyle Barker and Jason Roets, and he learnt a lot there. He’s now a very good caddie.”
That’s when Casey Jarvis entered the picture—eyes open and looking for someone with a spine strong enough to haul a bag and a rising star.
“Casey and I are good friends, and when Casey split with his old caddie he asked me about having Conrad caddie for him, and I said he wouldn’t go wrong. It seems to be working well for them with Casey’s recent win.”
The story raises the obvious question: will the two brothers team up again on tour? Herman keeps that thought grounded.
“He’s made this his career. If I’m in a position where I’m doing well in the future, maybe he’ll caddie for me. But then again, he might be overseas caddying in Majors. I can’t imagine he’d want to give that up to caddie for his older brother again.”
Whether they’re lifting trophies or lugging bags, the Loubser brothers keep finding ways to stay in the winner’s frame.
And if they continue at this pace, the Sunshine Tour may need to consider adding a family leaderboard.
