Fuenfstueck, Utama and Hewson One Behind Folke as LET Season Finale Tightens

Sweden’s Moa Folke surged into the spotlight at the Aramco China Championship, firing a bogey-free six-under-par 67 to seize the opening-round lead at Mission Hills Golf Club.

Her round, capped by a spectacular eagle at the 18th, puts her one clear of the chasing pack in the Ladies European Tour’s (LET) PIF Global Series finale.

Just one stroke back sits Germany’s Laura Fuenfstueck, who already has a PIF Global Series title to her name this year after her breakthrough win at the PIF London Championship in August.

She’s joined at five-under by Wichanee Meechai Utama and Alice Hewson, while a tightly bunched group of 11 players lurk two shots further adrift at four-under-par.

“It was a really fun day out there,” said Folke, who has been quietly trending upward throughout the season. “I hit the ball really well, and I feel like I’ve been trending in the right direction over the last few tournaments – getting closer and closer. So yeah, it was great to see it all come together today.”

The Aramco China Championship marks the Swede’s latest push for her maiden LET title. She’s shown flashes of brilliance in 2025, including a top-five finish at the Ford Women’s NSW Open and a T11 result in London. Yet, she’s the first to admit the journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing.

“I feel like I’ve been improving throughout the season,” she added. “I started off well, then had a bit of a patch where things were up and down, but I’ve been making a lot of cuts, so overall it’s been quite consistent.”

Folke has been here before — most notably at the Jabra Ladies Open in May, where she led heading into the weekend but faded to finish T17. “That was definitely a learning experience,” she said. “I think the key now is just to keep going. I’m excited – it’s a fun week, and having my parents here watching makes it even more special.”

Germany’s Laura Fuenfstueck, captain of Team Fuenfstueck, continues to ride her fine form through the PIF Global Series season. Her team currently shares the lead with Team Arwefjall, captained by Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall, as the competition blends individual glory with a unique team twist.

“It’s great fun, especially if you get a good team for the first two days – it really helps,” Fuenfstueck said. “But at the end of the day, it’s still an individual event, and I want to do well in those too.

We’ve had a lot of events this year, so there have been plenty of chances to earn points and prize money. Hopefully, that means a more relaxed Christmas! But overall, I’m just happy to be here and looking forward to seeing how the next two days go.”

A Day of Aces and Big Moments

Spectators were treated to fireworks early on, with Thailand’s Supamas Sangchan acing the fifth hole and Norway’s Dorthea Forbrigd matching the feat on the eighth — both earning roars from the Mission Hills galleries.

As the season’s curtain call, the Aramco China Championship is more than just a tournament. It’s a statement — a sign of the game’s global growth and the determination to bring women’s golf to new frontiers.

Golf Saudi’s Global Vision

Organised by Golf Saudi, the PIF Global Series continues to redefine opportunities for women in professional golf. By expanding into new markets like China, the initiative is strengthening pathways for elite competition while fostering grassroots development worldwide.

Golf Saudi’s efforts go beyond fairways and greens — they’re about reshaping the sport’s global landscape and positioning Saudi Arabia as a future hub for international golf, tourism, and investment.

Round Two of the Aramco China Championship tees off at 7:45 a.m. local time on Friday, with the team champions to be crowned by day’s end — and everything still to play for at Mission Hills.
