Fitzpatrick Leads, Scheffler Lurks Heading Into Championship Sunday at The RBC Heritage

It appears to be anybody’s game heading into Championship Sunday at Harbour Town.

While Matt Fitzpatrick holds a three-shot lead with 17-under par, a familiar face and former RBC Heritage champion in Scottie Scheffler lurks at 2nd; 14-under par

Several big names figure to be in the final conversation going into Championship Sunday, but they’ll have to overcome a healthy lead by 2023 winner Fitzpatrick and the inevitability of 2024 Scottie Scheffler.

Golfers 13-Under Par

  • Brian Harman
  • Si Woo Kim
  • Sepp Straka

Golfers 12-Under Par

  • Patrick Cantlay
  • Ludvig Aberg

Also in the conversation is hometown hero Andrew Novak (T6; 12-under par) who came so very close to winning last year, but ultimately lost in a playoff to eventual winner Justin Thomas.

Plenty of eyes will also be on Viktor Hovland who was featured on Saturday’s final pairing with Fitzpatrick. Hovland, who suffered a rough moving day with a 2-over par round including a double bogey on the Par 4 3rd, is not out of the race at T11; 11-under par, but will need to be not only perfect, but the best golfer on the course if he wishes to claw his way back into the race.

Former Korn Ferry Tour Star Chandler Blanchet Makes Moves

Chandler Blanchet had one of the best days of his young pro career he could have possibly asked for.

The former KFT star finished with an amazing mistake-free 7-under par for a final score of 64. Blanchet’s 64 was only second on the day to former Open winner Brian Harman, who inserted himself into the conversation by shooting the day’s only 63

Blanchet’s great day should serve as a real shot in the arm for the young pro’s career as it hasn’t been easy going at all this season having missed seven cuts thus far in a relatively short period of time.

Past Champions Fall Out of Contention

Reigning RBC Heritage Champion Justin Thomas experienced a rollercoaster of a day with 5 birdies and 4 bogeys good for a Saturday score of 70, his first under-par round of the tournament.

It’s unfortunate for Thomas, the 2025 RBC Heritage served as his comeback after a lengthy hiatus from winning with regularity. This 2026 iteration of the Heritage will arguably serve as his worst tournament all season. For JT, it’s been a wild ride that he’s probably ready to get off.

Jordan Spieth, the 2022 Heritage champion, easily commanded the largest crowd amongst the early starters, had a respectable but unremarkable day of 5-under par and settling for T41

It’s been a very long stretch of good, but not good enough tournaments for the three-time major championship winner.

If things don’t improve quickly for Spieth it will be another lost year as he will once again look to complete the Career Grand Slam at the upcoming PGA Championship at Aronimink in a few short weeks.

One thing is assured about tomorrow’s action: a tight race, and an extremely worthy winner who has proved he can beat the best by way of consistent and constant scoring.

Do not miss Sunday action for another exciting conclusion to The RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island!
