Ritchie Claims Stella Artois Championship After 36-Hole Marathon at Randpark

The Stella Artois Championship served up exactly the sort of drama golf fans secretly hope for: bad weather on the horizon, a compressed schedule, and a field forced to grind through 36 holes in one bruising day. And through it all, Ritchie stood tallest, winning the Stella Artois Championship by two shots on 17-under par at Randpark Golf Club.

With storms forecast for Sunday, organisers shoved the third and fourth rounds into one long Saturday shift. It was the kind of day that tests a player’s patience, stamina, and capacity to keep the wheels on when the skies are threatening mutiny.

Ritchie ended the third round tied with Bryce Easton at 15-under after firing a 65, while Easton countered with a blistering 63 that left the clubhouse buzzing. But when it mattered, Ritchie stayed steady, tacking on a final-round 69 to pull away and seal the trophy—his first on home soil since 2022 and another marker in a season that’s turning into something of a personal highlight reel.

“It’s been a while, especially back home. I’ve been winning elsewhere, so it’s really good to be taking a trophy home again,” he said.

The Sunshine Tour doesn’t often throw 36-hole days at its players, and Ritchie made no secret of how demanding it felt.

“It was really tough because 36 holes for us is unlikely as we don’t normally do that. I had to do a lot of mental preparation yesterday – plenty of food and fluids and just try and stay calm with the rain and bad weather. The second 18 was really brutal – it was tougher than what most people think.”

Considering what he’s packed into this year—three wins on the HotelPlanner Tour, topping the Road to Mallorca rankings—this latest triumph fits neatly into a season that has him looking every inch a contender wherever he tees it up.

Christiaan Burke (67) and Oliver Bekker (70) shared second on 15-under, while Hennie du Plessis continued his impressive return from injury, finishing tied fourth at 14-under after recently winning on his comeback.

Ritchie’s win at the Stella Artois Championship doesn’t just add another trophy to the shelf. It reinforces the sense that he’s entering his prime with purpose—and with a game sharp enough to shine whether the sun’s out or the rain’s closing in.
