Rory McIlroy to Kick Off 2026 Season at Dubai Creek Resort

Rory McIlroy will begin 2026 exactly where he feels most at home — under the Dubai sun. The four-time Race to Dubai champion has confirmed his return to Dubai Creek Resort for the 2026 Dubai Invitational, running from January 15–18, as he looks to build on what might just be the most defining year of his glittering career.

The Ryder Cup hero and now five-time Major winner is coming off a 2025 season that rewrote golf’s history books. Not only did McIlroy play a starring role in Europe’s emotional Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black — their first on American soil in 13 years — but he also completed the elusive career Grand Slam, joining golf’s most exclusive club.

By winning the 2025 Masters, McIlroy added the final jewel to his Major crown, standing alongside only five other players in history to have conquered all four of golf’s biggest prizes. It was a season that saw the Northern Irishman go from nearly-man to living legend.

Now, with the dust barely settled on a year for the ages, McIlroy’s gaze is fixed once again on the Middle East — a region that has been a springboard for many of his finest triumphs.

“Starting my year in the UAE has always been my preference,” said McIlroy. “I’ve had so many great weeks there, and I’m sure Dubai next January will be no different. Dubai Creek Resort was a fantastic host venue two years ago, and my friend Abdulla and his team put on an incredible event.

I came very close to winning that week, so I’m hoping 2026 will be another strong year for me and starting off well in Dubai would be the perfect way to get it underway.”

That near-miss still lingers. McIlroy finished runner-up at the inaugural Dubai Invitational in 2024, a single shot behind his Ryder Cup teammate Tommy Fleetwood, who’s already confirmed he’ll return to defend his title in 2026. If there’s one thing more dangerous than McIlroy in form, it’s McIlroy with unfinished business.

Currently sitting atop the 2025 Race to Dubai standings, the World Number Two plans to stay in the UAE for back-to-back weeks, following the Invitational with the Hero Dubai Desert Classic — an event he’s lifted four times and knows like the back of his hand.

Tournament Host Abdulla Al Naboodah expressed his delight at McIlroy’s commitment: “It is an honour to welcome career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy back to the Dubai Creek Resort for the 2026 Dubai Invitational. His participation is a significant addition to our world-class field, and we look forward to delivering another exceptional week of competition and hospitality for players, partners, and spectators.”

The Dubai Invitational marks the opening event of the Race to Dubai’s International Swing, blending serious golf with a splash of glamour. The bi-annual event features 60 DP World Tour professionals and 60 amateurs, with a three-day Pro-Am leading into a Sunday showdown among the pros.

In typical Dubai fashion, general admission will be free of charge, with fans invited to register via www.dpworldtour.com.

With Rory McIlroy leading the charge, a world-class field assembling, and Dubai Creek Resort set to sparkle once again, the 2026 Dubai Invitational promises to be the perfect curtain-raiser for another electrifying season of global golf.
