TGL Mega Matchup: Justin Thomas Returns, Colin Morikawa Shows Off New Trophy, Hideki Matsuyama Arrives, and More in Two Day TGL Doubleheader

Two action-packed nights unfold over Monday and Tuesday evenings for an ultra-rare double-doubleheader of TGL excitement!

On Monday February 23rd, Justin Thomas and the reigning champs Atlanta Drive take on Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common. JT and company immediately head back into the fray against Pebble Beach Pro Am winner Colin Morikawa and the Los Angeles Golf Club. LA will be joined by recent PGA Tour winners Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood, making the SoFi Center look like a golf All-Star event.

Tuesday, it’s New York’s time to shine as Xander Schauffele and crew host their own doubleheader – first against Wyndham Clark’s The Bay before proceeding to take on some old fan favorites from Boston Common in Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Scott.

Match One – Atlanta Drive vs. Boston Common 5:00 PM ET – The Return of Justin Thomas

Atlanta will close out their regular season Monday night in a doubleheader that sees them take on the undefeated Boston Common squad in the first of two matches.

The Drive will likely only need a single win between Boston/Los Angeles in order to advance to the playoffs to begin their title defense. Easier said than done – due to Jupiter’s recent victory, every single team now has a legitimate chance to make it to the postseason. There will be no shoo-ins or gimmes, even for the powerhouses and blue bloods.

Team Lineups

Atlanta Drive

  1. Justin Thomas
  2. Chris Gotterup
  3. Patrick Cantlay

Boston Common

  1. Keegan Bradley
  2. Rory McIlroy
  3. Michael Thorbjornsen

Justin Thomas makes his surprise return to professional golf after missing the winter and the start of the 2026 season recovering from surgery. The last time we saw JT in TGL action he was lifting the SoFi Cup after helping Atlanta secure the Season 1 championship.

Rust generally hasn’t been an issue for TGL veterans, so expect JT to jump into the all-star lineup.

Boston will send in their big guns, looking to improve their record to a perfect 3 – 0 – 0 on the season. Boston serves as good as a contender as any to unseat Atlanta from their championship throne.

McIlroy, Bradley, and Thorbjornsen all rank inside the Top 10 in total points scored this season with McIlroy and Thorbjornsen leading the way standing at T3 with 12 points scored. Nobody has come close to matching McIlroy’s average driving distance at 345.9 yards per match.

Match MVP and Projected Winner

Boston isn’t holding back and Atlanta is in a tricky situation having to place twice in one night.

While Boston is throwing their very best at Atlanta, the Drive have made the odd decision to split their forces in an attempt to take both wins on the night. I don’t understand the reasoning behind playing Billy Horschel only once and Patrick Cantlay twice. Trust in the defending champs, but still the decision seems odd.

Rory McIlroy and Boston Common take the first match and go up 3 – 0 – 0 to ensure a spot in the playoffs.

Match Two – Los Angeles vs. Atlanta Drive 9:00 PM ET – LA Brings the Hardware

Colin Morikawa, recent winner of the Pebble Beach Pro Am, and a winner for the first time since 2023, will look to continue his fantastic TGL season with a fellow pair of winners as Los Angeles faces off against the Atlanta Drive.

This is Atlanta’ second match of the night, and if you can believe it, their last of the regular season.

Team Lineups

Los Angeles

  1. Tommy Fleetwood
  2. Justin Rose
  3. Colin Morikawa

Atlanta Drive

  1. Billy Horschel
  2. Patrick Cantlay
  3. Lucas Glover

Los Angeles finds itself fielding a core of champions early in the 2026 PGA Tour season.

It’s been a disappointing Season 2 thus far for the 1 – 2 – 0 LA squad, but for a team this briming with talent, it’s hard to believe they could go down to 1 – 3 – 0 on the season and looking at early elimination scenarios.

No matter the outcome of Monday night’s opener, don’t expect Atlanta to hold anything back. Billy Horschel might as well be nicknamed ‘Mr. TGL’ at this point. The TGL total points leader is fully capable of taking over a match almost singlehandedly, and that is exactly what Atlanta is going to need.

Match MVP and Projected Winner

Advantage Los Angeles lead by Colin Morikawa – Due to the fact that Atlanta has made the dubious move to split their forces and not put their best foot forward like Boston. Swap Horschel with JT and Atlanta at least wins one match, I’m sorry to say that it looks like they lose their second in a row here.

Morikawa, T6 in total points with 11 in 21 matches, is an ultra-efficient golfer who is 100% dialed in after his big win at Pebble Beach. The fact that Morikawa gets to play with Fleetwood and Rose makes LA as close to a TGL dream team as you could get. LA-ATL is made for television golf and will likely be the most competitive match on either day.

Match Three – New York vs. The Bay 5:00 PM ET – A Season is Decided

It seems like forever since New York has taken the field, their last match being a 8 – 3 thrashing against Jupiter Links on January 13th. For the first leg of their own doubleheader, New York draws last season’s regular-season powerhouse, The Bay.

Neal Shipley and Luke Clanton helped The Bay avoid disaster and slumping to a winless record by completely revamping their team through youth injection into a squad that looked lackluster throughout the first two matches of the season.

The youngsters are not on tap for Tuesday’s match. Instead The Bay will rely on the familiar threesome of Clark, Lowry, and Aberg who have struggled mightily throughout the season.

Team Lineups

New York

  1. Xander Schauffele
  2. Rickie Fowler
  3. Matt Fitzpatrick

The Bay

  1. Ludvig Aberg
  2. Wyndham Clark
  3. Shane Lowry

Rickie Fowler goes into Tuesday evening’s first match as the most efficient golfer perhaps in TGL history.

Despite only playing one match this season, Fowler used his lone appearance to post seven total points through nine holes played. Slightly better than the substitute duo of Claton and Shipley who scored the same number of points through ten holes in their guest appearance for The Bay a few weeks ago.

Match MVP and Projected Winner

NY-BAY could go one of two ways.

  1. The Bay old heads turn their fortunes around with a complete 180 and pull off a huge upset.
  2. Matt Fitzpatrick and Rickie Fowler play just good enough to pull off what is likely to amount to an easy win.

We’re banking on the latter.

While Schauffele is certainly the biggest draw on either side, it’s curious that he gets the nod to go back-to-back along with Rickie Fowler. Cam Young has been a TGL all-star since the league’s inception and Matt Fitzpatrick is looking like he’s getting closer and closer to his U.S. Open champion form. Fowler and Fitzpatrick give New York a big win and head into the second match against Boston fully ready to sweep the night.

Match Four – Boston Common vs. New York 9:00 PM ET – Familiar Faces in Surprising Places

Closing out Tuesday’s doubleheader, New York plays their second consecutive game of the night against Boston Common, leaving both clubs with one game left to finish the regular season.

Team Lineups

Boston Common

  1. Adam Scott
  2. Hideki Matsuyama
  3. Keegan Bradley

New York

  1. Xander Schauffele
  2. Rickie Fowler
  3. Cameron Young

Making their first appearances of the season, former Masters winners Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama take to the field in an attempt to close out the night with a victory that would likely ensure them a spot in the postseason.

Boston, one of only two teams that missed the playoffs last year, will call upon the seldom-used duo of Scott and Matsuyama who saw limited action in 2025, combining for just 10 points total through 53 holes.

The good news for Boston is that Matsuyama is one of the most in-form golfers on The PGA Tour. His win at the Hero World Challenge to close out the 2025 season and 2nd place finish at the WM Phoenix Open are well documented as he once again finds himself in the Top 10 according to OWGR.

New York’s Cam Young takes the place of Matt Fitzpatrick.

Match MVP and Projected Winner

I am completely unconcerned about Cam Young’s lack of efficiency in scoring only 7 points through 21 holes played. This may very well be the match that Cam turns it around and makes his presence known.

I don’t have too much faith in Boston’s ‘second squad’ especially since both Scott and Matsuyama have yet to play this season and didn’t show us much from their limited playtime last season.

New York takes the last match of this doubleheader behind Cam Young’s turnaround game and punches their ticket to the playoffs.

New Hole: Caverns

Following the popularity of Stinger, the hole that forces an ultra-low tee shot if one hopes to have any chance of not just winning the hole, but even making par, TGL has decided to give the people what they want. Presenting: Caverns!

The underground cave course features a number of stalactites which require the teams to keep their shots low like Stringer while simultaneously navigating underground water pathways and other hazards.

The new Par 5 from TGL figures to be one of the more exciting new courses and is following the new trend of building unrealistic, but fascinating and challenging, courses that capture the imagination and make for good television.

How the Season is Shaping Up for March

Season 2 resumes March 1st when Jupiter takes on Boston. Jupiter, which took a surprise win last time they took the field, is the only TGL team that has more than one match left after the double-doubleheader. Tiger Woods’ team ends their season by facing off against The Bay on March 3rd to close out Season 2’s regular season.

The Top 4 teams will head to a semifinals doubleheader on March 17th to determine who gets the honor of playing for the SoFi Cup March 23 – 24th

You can keep track of standings and playoff seeding here on TGL’s website.
