Tommy Fleetwood Wins Inaugural DP World India Championship After Final-Round Surge

In a year already dipped in fairy dust, Tommy Fleetwood has added yet another glittering chapter. The Englishman stormed to victory at the DP World India Championship, closing with a sizzling 65 to win by two shots at Delhi Golf Club – and for the first time in his career, he got to share the winning moment on the 18th green with his young son Frankie. If golf ever wanted a poster for feel-good sporting theatre, this was it.

Fleetwood’s remarkable 2025 shows no signs of easing off. He ended his PGA TOUR drought by sealing the FedExCup in August, then helped Europe engineer a Ryder Cup heist at Bethpage Black in hostile territory. Now he’s an eight-time DP World Tour winner and world No.5 – and judging by his form in Delhi, he’s in a hurry for more.

Final-Round Fire

With third-round leader Keita Nakajima and New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier applying early heat, Fleetwood needed something special to tilt momentum his way – and he found it with a burst of scoring that could light up a Delhi power grid.

Four straight birdies from the 7th saw Fleetwood rocket to 20-under-par, grabbing a share of the lead just as Nakajima began to stall. A nerveless par save kept his nose in front before he drained long-range putts on the 14th and 17th to tighten his grip.

A stress-free closing par sealed victory in what has quickly become one of the most memorable editions of a new DP World Tour event.

Nakajima, who continues to build an enviable record in India after a win last year and another runner-up this season, finished solo second at 20-under after a 69. Shane Lowry, Alex Fitzpatrick and Thriston Lawrence shared third at 18-under, while Viktor Hovland eagled the last to join Jayden Schaper and Joost Luiten at 17-under.

Fleetwood: “This means a lot”

Fleetwood couldn’t hide what the moment meant – not just the win, but the memory made with his son.

“It’s been an amazing week. I think everybody has been excited about this tournament being on the schedule and on the calendar. Some great players that played, some great names have come over to support the game and to play over here.”

“I’ve enjoyed the test of the golf course. I’ve enjoyed the fans here in Delhi and the hospitality that we’ve been given, how everybody has been so kind to me and my family.”

“We were at home last week… and he (Frankie) just said randomly, do you know what you’ve never done? He said, you’ve never won a tournament and I’ve been able to run on to the 18th green. I was like, I’m writing that down.”

“This means a lot, this win. It means I can carry on and I can play Abu Dhabi and Dubai and there’s still opportunities left.”

Fleetwood also paid tribute to Nakajima: “Keita… played amazing. The par he made on 16, the putt he holed after me on 17, I think he did amazing, and he was a pleasure to play against today.”

Mini Driver Magic: Fleetwood’s Weapon of Choice

While most professionals stick with the traditional fairway wood setup, Fleetwood has been happily tearing up that script for months. His secret sauce? The TaylorMade R7 Quad Mini Driver – a club straight from golf’s rebel manual.

He swapped in the R7 Quad earlier this year, and the DP World India Championship set-up suited it perfectly. With Delhi’s tight, tree-lined fairways demanding accuracy, the mini driver stayed glued to his hands all week.

“I haven’t had a three wood in my bag in three years and the mini has been a staple part of my bag… it’s actually as good or even better off the tee.”

With the DP World India Championship now engraved on his career résumé and the season finale looming, Fleetwood looks as dangerous as ever. Golf’s quiet assassin has momentum, hardware, and a heartfelt moment with his son in his pocket. The rest of the field has been warned.
