David Law has turned the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge into his personal launch pad, storming into top spot on the Road to Mallorca Rankings after bagging his second victory of the season.
The 34-year-old Scot stitched together a four-under-par final round of 68 at Vierumäki Resort to finish at 17 under, two shots clear of England’s Alfie Plant and Sweden’s Jonas Blixt.
It was a finish that looked as steady as a surgeon’s hand but had enough pressure in the mix to rattle a seasoned pro.
Law began the final round a shot back, rolled in three birdies and sprinkled in a bogey before the turn, and then tightened the screws on the back nine. The clincher came at the par-five 18th, where he signed off with a birdie that felt more like an exclamation mark than a period.
“It feels amazing because it was quite a tricky day with players coming from behind,” Law said. “Alfie Plant and Jonas Blixt played really well and that put a lot of pressure on me. You had to be aware of what guys were doing around you but had to remain patient at the same time.”
A Long Wait Turns into a Streak
Law’s win at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge comes just weeks after breaking a six-year drought at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge. Two wins in little over a month have rewritten his season and reshaped his ambitions.
“I would love to win the Rankings this year,” he said. “My aim at the start of the year was to finish inside the top 20 and get my DP World Tour card back but to win it now is well within my grasp and that is the goal for the rest of the season.
“I’ve just managed to get a bit of confidence, and I’ve really enjoyed my time on the HotelPlanner Tour this year. Last year was a real struggle for me but it’s just nice to be playing well again.”
Law, who already has three HotelPlanner Tour titles, now sits on 1,170.02 points at the top of the Road to Mallorca Rankings. He’s followed by Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy, who finished fourth in Finland at 14 under.
The Chasing Pack
Guillamoundeguy’s performance pushed him into second spot in the standings, while American Nick Carlson, overnight leader Andoni Etchenique, Portugal’s Pedro Figueiredo and Spain’s Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela all tied for fifth at 13 under.
As for the next stop? The travelling circus moves to the Netherlands for The Dutch Futures, teeing off from August 21–24. Law, with his new-found swagger, will arrive with both the target and the momentum squarely on his shoulders.
