WTGL Is Coming: Women’s Golf Gets Its Arena League

If you thought modern golf had peaked at polite applause and careful trousers, think again. WTGL is the newest swing at turning a centuries-old game into something that moves at the speed of a scrolling thumb—team golf, match play, and big-league production, all set to launch in winter 2026-27 from the custom-built SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

The LPGA and TMRW Sports say the plan is simple: put the world’s best women golfers into a fast-paced team format, let personalities breathe, and deliver a season that looks and feels like sport in 2026—not 1926.

“Partnering with TMRW Sports on WTGL reflects our belief that innovation can help the game reach new fans and create greater visibility for LPGA athletes,” said LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler. “I’ve seen how new formats can engage audiences while showcasing both athlete personality and performance, and WTGL brings that spirit of innovation to the women’s game. It creates another global stage for our athletes—one that helps fans connect more deeply with them and continues to elevate the visibility and growth of women’s golf.”

A women’s league built on the TGL playbook—only sharper, faster, louder

WTGL will build on the foundation of TGL presented by SoFi, which has already been framed in the kind of praise golf rarely gets without blushing: a “high-energy arena spectacle” by Vanity Fair, “pure entertainment” by GQ, and “golf’s boldest new venture” by Fast Company.

The idea is to keep the bits that made TGL feel like a live event rather than a nap—mic’d up moments, pressure decisions, and yes, throwing the Hammer—then apply that same stagecraft to the LPGA’s best talent.

“In partnership with the LPGA, WTGL is another step in creating a modern, media-focused version of a centuries-old game that appeals to today’s sports fan. Since the launch of TGL a year ago, TMRW Sports has been putting the pieces in place to create a women’s league featuring the best players in the world.

Now, along with the LPGA and its athletes, we look forward to creating a stage to help showcase the stars of the LPGA,” said Mike McCarley, founder and CEO, TMRW Sports. “WTGL’s short-form, team golf format will engage new audiences and complement the LPGA Tour’s global appeal.”

The tech layer: data, pressure, and proof

If you like your golf with receipts, WTGL is promising the same tech-driven platform fans have come to expect from TGL—comprehensive shot performance data, plus statistics-based analytics built directly into the competition. In plain English: less guesswork, more evidence, and a clearer window into how elite players actually pull off the ridiculous.

Why this bet looks sensible (and not just shiny)

TGL’s first season delivered a notable audience profile—one of the youngest in sports, second only to the NBA, based on both median age (52) and the share of viewers in the adults 18-49 demo (41%).

The research nuggets the league is keen to highlight are telling: 10% of TGL’s viewers who were PGA TOUR fans watched more PGA TOUR coverage last season, and 32% of TGL viewers ages 18-34 did not regularly watch the PGA TOUR.

Those are the kind of behavioural shifts sports executives pin to the wall with the enthusiasm of a proud parent.

And the LPGA’s logic is straightforward: if a modern arena product can widen the funnel for men’s golf, then a women’s version—built around the LPGA’s stars—has every chance of doing the same, while giving players another premium platform to be seen, heard, and followed.

Final take

WTGL is not trying to replace the LPGA Tour; it’s trying to amplify it—by putting the best women golfers in a format engineered for attention, momentum, and personality.

If they land the teams, the rivalries and the broadcast rhythm, WTGL could become the rare “new golf thing” that doesn’t feel like a gimmick. It feels like the sport learning to speak in full sentences again.
