Celtic Manor to Host The G4D Open in Landmark Three-Year Deal

Celtic Manor will once again be at the heart of golfing history as the iconic Welsh resort prepares to host The G4D Open for the first time in 2026.

In a move that underlines the venue’s stature as one of the game’s great stages, the championship will remain at Celtic Manor through 2027 and 2028.

First staged in 2023, The G4D Open has quickly become a beacon of inclusivity in golf, showcasing the world’s most talented players with disabilities. After three successful editions at Woburn, the event now heads west to Celtic Manor, which knows a thing or two about drama and history—this is the same place where Colin Montgomerie’s Europe famously tamed the Americans at the Ryder Cup in 2010.

From 14–16 May 2026, 80 male and female golfers from across the globe will tackle 54 holes of stroke play on the Roman Road Course. Competitors will represent nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups, including Standing, Intellectual, Visual and Sitting categories. If you’re looking for proof that golf really is a game for everyone, this is it.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director – Championships at The R&A, put it plainly: “The G4D Open is an important part of our drive to demonstrate golf is accessible and welcoming to all while inspiring and encouraging more people with a disability to take up the sport.

We look forward to taking The G4D Open to Celtic Manor for the next three years and continuing the development of the Championship. We also want to thank Woburn Golf Club and The Duke of Bedford for supporting The G4D Open as we now prepare for further success in Wales.”

The DP World Tour has also been a driving force behind the championship. Maria Grandinetti Milton, Director of Sustainability, highlighted its unique appeal: “The G4D Open holds its place as one of the most inclusive golf championships in the world and it’s been a pleasure to watch its growth over the past three years.

The G4D Open is filled with inspirational stories and an incredible standard of golf. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Woburn Golf Club for their fantastic support in staging the Championship since its founding in 2023.

The Championship is now entering an exciting new era at Celtic Manor, a venue steeped in history as a former Ryder Cup venue.”

A Venue Steeped in Legacy

Celtic Manor’s Roman Road Course isn’t just another patch of grass—it’s a Robert Trent Jones design that has staged everything from the Wales Open on the DP World Tour to the Wales Senior Open. And let’s not forget, it was the supporting act while the Twenty Ten Course was being built for the Ryder Cup.

Julie Hammond, Celtic Manor Resort Chief Executive, is confident the stage will be set for something special: “We are thrilled to be hosting The G4D Open for the next three years and I am sure the picturesque Roman Road Course will provide a fantastic stage for these talented golfers to showcase their skills.

Having hosted the Invictus Golf Challenge last year and worked with ISPS HANDA as title sponsor of the Wales Open for three years, we know all about the power of golf as an inclusive and accessible sport. We look forward to seeing more inspiring golf at The G4D Open and supporting the development of the game for people with disabilities.”

The championship also carries significant weight for Wales. Following the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl—the largest women’s sporting event ever staged in the country—The G4D Open at Celtic Manor marks another milestone.

Jack Sargeant, Welsh Government Sports Minister, said: “I am pleased that we will be supporting The G4D Open to take place at the Celtic Manor Resort next year.

It is an important event in the disabled sport calendar for both amateurs and professionals and will offer tourism and economic benefits and showcase Wales as a key destination for people with a disability.”

Tony Bennett, President of EDGA, echoed the sentiment: “We at EDGA are proud to support the delivery of The G4D Open at Celtic Manor, a world class venue in the heart of Wales.

The Championship is a powerful opportunity to showcase the benefits of golf for the disabled, not only to local communities but also to a global audience. We’re committed to ensuring The G4D Open impact goes far beyond championship week to inspire new communities to see that golf is a sport where everyone can feel welcomed.”

More Than Just a Championship

The G4D Open is part of the G4D Tour, operated by the DP World Tour and launched in 2022. It attracts the best-ranked Gross and Net players from the WR4GD, staging its events on the same courses and in the same weeks as flagship DP World Tour tournaments.

In other words, this isn’t an exhibition—it’s world-class competition on a world-class stage. And now, with Celtic Manor stepping in as host for the next three years, Wales has another golden chapter to add to its golfing story.
