The DP World Tour has entered a landmark partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), setting the stage for a new era of golf that blends tradition with cutting-edge technology.
The agreement names AWS as the Official Cloud Provider of golf’s global Tour, with both sides promising a smarter, more connected experience for players, fans and organisers.
AWS’s cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure will sit at the heart of the Tour’s transformation. Using real-time data and deep historical insight, the partnership aims to reshape everything from live broadcasts to on-site operations.
AI-Powered Coverage with a Human Touch
Broadcasts will soon look very different. With AWS Media Services, fans will be able to stream rapid-fire highlights and personalised content almost as quickly as the players can make their next shot. The technology will also drive new interactive experiences across TV, social media and mobile platforms.
“Building an AI system that understands golf’s nuances is incredibly complex,” said Nina Walsh, Global Leader, Industry Business Development for Media, Entertainment, Games, and Sports at AWS.
“Imagine following a crucial shot on your mobile device and instantly understanding not just the distance, but the historical success rate, the impact of the wind, or how the player performs under pressure – all narrated in your preferred language. That’s the experience we want to deliver to every golf fan worldwide.”
The Tour’s library of video and image assets will also be restructured through a new AI-driven media system that automatically tags and sorts clips. This means producers and fans alike will be able to call up any player, shot or tournament moment in seconds — turning years of archived footage into an easily searchable goldmine.
Bringing the Course to Life for Spectators
For fans attending events, AWS will expand the Tour’s Virtual Twin — a detailed digital version of each course that processes more than a million data points every tournament. The system combines weather, terrain, player stats and predictive analytics to show how each hole is playing in real time.
Whether spectators are standing at the 1st tee or the far end of the fairway, they’ll be able to follow every shot through screens and mobile devices — effectively giving them a front-row seat to the entire course.
Smarter Operations Behind the Scenes
Tournament logistics are notoriously complex, and the DP World Tour plans to make them more efficient using AWS’s agentic AI systems. These tools will analyse live data from crowd movement to concession stand queues, giving operations teams instant information to make decisions on the ground.
Through Amazon Bedrock and QuickSight, event staff can access easy-to-read dashboards to adjust everything from marshal positioning to merchandise stock levels — improving both efficiency and fan comfort.
A Global ‘Tournament-as-a-Service’ Vision
The partnership also supports the Tour’s ongoing mission to build “intelligent golf courses” around the world. From 2026, tournament software and analytics will run entirely on AWS, allowing events in all 26 host countries to operate with the same consistency and reliability.
“A golf tournament is one of the most complex events to deliver in professional sport,” said Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer at the DP World Tour. “Instead of a single stadium, we are building a smart city every week, often in remote locations.
With our tournament services now hosted in AWS, we will be able to deliver a connected and intelligent course with greater consistency and reliability, wherever we are in the world.”
Pushing for a Greener Game
Sustainability remains central to the DP World Tour’s plans. AWS will power a new platform, Green Drive Live, designed to track and reduce energy use, emissions, water and waste at every event. Using machine learning, the platform can predict the environmental impact of different set-up options before tournaments begin.
Fans will even be able to see real-time carbon metrics displayed on screens and in the Tour’s app. The push builds on a programme launched in 2024, which reduced emissions by about 87 tonnes per tournament through remote television production — something AWS is helping to expand further.
Tradition Meets Technology
For the DP World Tour, the goal isn’t to replace golf’s traditions, but to modernise how they’re experienced. With AWS’s technology woven through its operations, the Tour is betting on a future where every shot, stat and story is at fans’ fingertips — wherever in the world they’re watching.
