Chapultepec Beckons as LIV’s Big Guns Reload in Mexico

Now that the 91st Masters tournament has concluded and the green jacket has once again been awarded to Rory McIlroy, we set our sights on LIV’s next tournament on familiar grounds, the Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City!

Last season, Joaquin Niemann claimed his third win of the season at Chapultepec, finishing 16-under par, three better than runners-up Bryson DeChambeau and Lucas Herbert.

With two tournaments before the next major championship, The PGA Championship at Aronimink, LIV’s best look to fine-tune their skills and get back into form. For an elite few, the next two tournaments serve as proving grounds to ready themselves for one of the biggest prizes of the season.

We take a look at who in the field has the best chance to win Mexico City and make big moves in the standings!

Top 5 Projected Performers

(1) Jon Rahm

Rahm’s T38 place;1-over par finish was not what we expected of LIV’s leading individual, but the Sunday effort to claw back to a respectable finish did not go unnoticed. Rahm takes the win in Mexico City and further extends his lead in the standings.

(2) Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau’s most recent showing at The Masters was a complete disaster, there’s no other way to put it. Bryson went into Augusta as LIV’s best chance to win the major, which would have been the league’s first since DeChambeau did it at the 2024 U.S. Open. Rounds of 76 and 74 on Thursday and Friday sunk the two-time major winner’s hopes of finally taking home the green jacket.

Despite the lackluster showing, DeChambeau remains among LIV’s best, and figures to be a heavy favorite (along with Rahm) going into Mexico City.

(3) Thomas Detry

One of LIV’s newest additions to the field, Detry has quickly become one of LIV’s best and most reliable golfers, finishing in the Top 10 three times and taking the podium twice.

Detry didn’t play Mexico City last year, so there’s no recent data on how he may perform at Club de Golf Chapultepec, but we’re banking that he pulls off at least a Top 5 finish, with a very good chance to win his first LIV tournament.

(4) Tyrrell Hatton

Hatton’s Masters performance was worlds apart from all his LIV colleagues. Even though he didn’t win, Hatton’s masterclass showing on Sunday has to give him the confidence that he’s ready to get out there and make a run for his second win on LIV.

(5) Joaquin Niemann

A bit of a surprise pick here, but I have a good feeling that last years LIV Mexico City champ will have his best showing of the 2026 season this weekend.

Sitting pretty at 13th overall, Niemann hasn’t had a bad season by any measure. Nieman’s season likely feels so disappointing due to how dominant he was in 2025.

The good news is that Joaco is trending in the right direction with two Top 15 finishes in his last two matches including 4th place in Singapore.

Top Projected Team

Legion XIII

The 4 Aces and Ripper, two teams who looked like they had a duopoly on winning team championships both fizzled out in South Africa, leaving Crushers and Southern Guards to duke it out. Is the dominance over for a single club leaving the field wide open for a new contender to emerge? If so, we’ll take the former champs powered by Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.

Legion XIII doesn’t feature any real weak links and it is a wonder they haven’t won yet after crushing the competition time and time again in 2025.

Since we like Jon Rahm for the individual win, and Tyrrell Hatton just had his best showing in over a year, we’re going with Legion XIII as our team champions.

The scores for last year’s champions: Rahm (4th; 12-under par), Hatton (5th; 11-under par), Surratt (T11; 7-under par), McKibbin (T34; 2-over par).

Around the League: What You Need to Know Before Mexico City

  • LIV was well represented at the 91st Masters. Charl Schwartzel, Sergio Garcia, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Tyrrell Hatton all made the cut. Tyrrell Hatton had the best week finishing T3 with a score of 10-under par.
  • In finishing T3, Tyrrell Hatton secured his invite to the 92nd Masters in 2027.
  • This is the fourth LIV tournament that has been held in Mexico and the second straight for Mexico City. Mayakoba previously hosted the tournament 2023 – 2024.
  • Mexico City marks LIV’s first tournament in North America after spending the last several months in Asia, Australia, and South Africa.
