South African Stars Set for Sun City as Naidoo and Lawrence Join Nedbank Golf Challenge

The Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City has always been part circus, part cathedral, and this year it promises to be both again. From 4–7 December 2025, the Gary Player Country Club will play host to a South African charge fronted by two men with very different résumés but the same goal: to plant the crystal trophy firmly back on home soil.

Thriston Lawrence, the 28-year-old already with five DP World Tour titles to his name, returns to a tournament that’s etched into his golfing DNA. Alongside him, Dylan Naidoo, freshly minted as Investec South African Open champion, will make his debut at Africa’s Major.

They join an already formidable local cast: PGA TOUR winner Aldrich Potgieter, the ever-steady Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Sunshine Tour Order of Merit champ Daniel van Tonder.

Which is to say, if you’re an overseas visitor thinking this might be an easy safari, bring more than binoculars.

With Lawrence, Potgieter, and Bezuidenhout all ranked among the top 75 in the world, the South Africans aren’t just showing up—they’re coming with intent.

Lawrence Returns with Form and Fire

Thriston Lawrence

Lawrence has history here. His debut at the 2022 Nedbank Golf Challenge had him one shot off the lead heading into Sunday before finishing tied 13th. Two more top-15s since then suggest a man itching to climb higher. Fresh off his fifth DP World Tour victory, he’s ready for another crack at Sun City.

“This tournament is very special to me and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of our home fans and joining my fellow South Africans in hopefully claiming a home victory,” said Lawrence.

The way he said it, you’d think he’d already booked the trophy a seat in his car.

Naidoo Living the Dream

Then there’s Dylan Naidoo. At 27, he’s living the sort of year golfers scribble about in their diaries but rarely share. Winning his national Open in March wasn’t just a breakthrough, it was a jailbreak into the upper tiers of the sport.

“Winning my national Open was a life-changing moment for me and it’s opened up so many doors, one of which is a place in the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

As a young South African golfer, you grow up dreaming of winning your national Open, and then playing in and hopefully one day winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge. I can’t wait to experience a tournament that has been such a big part of South African golf history,” said Naidoo.

That’s the kind of wide-eyed honesty fans love—no clichés, just the truth about what it means to finally get a seat at golf’s biggest African table.

Fans Get the Full Experience

Of course, no Nedbank Golf Challenge is complete without spoiling the fans. The famous Hospitali-TEE Lounge will return, offering the full works: unlimited premium bar, buffet, a merchandise voucher, a seat in the 18th green VIP grandstand, a photo with the trophy, live entertainment, daily prizes, and even a player autograph opportunity.

Think of it as Sun City’s version of heaven—golf, air-conditioning, and a bar that doesn’t close.

The Stage is Set

The Nedbank Golf Challenge has always been more than just a tournament. It’s theatre on fairways carved through the bushveld, where the crowd is as much a part of the show as the players.

With Lawrence chasing redemption, Naidoo chasing dreams, and a strong South African contingent determined to keep the trophy at home, this year looks like another page-turner in the event’s rich history.

And if history tells us anything, it’s that Sun City has a way of delivering drama the way only golf can.
