Andy DevaneyThe Gary Player Country Club golf course will present a notably different examination at the 2026 Nedbank Golf Challenge, with a new first hole, its first dedicated practice range and a substantial programme of bunker, tee and spectator upgrades.
Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau headline the first five players announced. The course, meanwhile, has been busy growing new teeth.
A new first hole changes the opening question
The principal change is a new 470-metre par-four first, built parallel to the original and higher along the mountainside. The former first-hole site becomes the new practice range, with a putting and chipping green behind the range tees.

These latest changes are part of this vision. I’m excited that we could make these enhancements to the golf course, and for the incredible support of this process from Sun International and Nedbank.
At the same time, for us to also be able to announce such a strong first group of players means we’re looking forward to one of the most thrilling editions in the history of this great tournament.”
New tees and bunkers sharpen the test
Professional tees have been added at the third, sixth, eighth, 10th, 14th and 15th. All greenside bunkers are being refurbished with Bunker Armour, with additional bunkers at the eighth, 13th and 14th.
The dam beside the second has been enlarged, while the ninth now offers a more open line left for the second shot, exposing more of the waterfall and the far-left pin. New bushveld walkways and a spectator area between the seventh and 12th greens complete the visible changes.
DeChambeau and Rose lead the first five
Rose and DeChambeau join defending champion Kristoffer Reitan, Casey Jarvis and Marco Penge.
