As is tradition, the week after the Masters, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina will host one of its premier PGA Tour Signature Events, the RBC Heritage!
Last week Rory McIlroy was just good enough through the final round to hold off Young, Scheffler, and Rose to earn his second consecutive green jacket; his sixth career major championship overall!
Harbour Town Golf Links, home of the RBC Heritage, will feature a star-studded lineup through four days of top competition, April 16 – 19.
The impressive field includes Masters runner-up Scottie Scheffler, along with Players champion Cam Young, and the 2025 Heritage champ, Justin Thomas.
The RBC Heritage is one of the five invitational tournaments administered by The PGA Tour. As a result, only the best on tour receives an invite in order to shape the most competitive field possible outside the majors.
The Par 71 championship course demands accuracy off the tee on and features dual tree lines on several prominent holes. One of the shorter courses on tour, Harbour Town Golf Links measures at 7,099 yards, but contains plenty of water hazards and the odd alligator or two loitering about inside them.
Top Contenders and Who to Follow
Previous champions Justin Thomas (2025), Scottie Scheffler (2024), Matt Fitzpatrick (2023), and Jordan Spieth (2022) have all committed to the Heritage. The foursome figures to be among the favorites and also become the tournament’s first repeat champion since Stewart Cink won his third Heritage in 2021.
Although he didn’t win his third Masters, Scottie’s second-place finish of 10-under par ensured essential OWGR points to keep the World Number One in the top spot by a margin of almost two hundred points.
Scheffler’s 2024 victory at Hilton Head came by way of a dominant 19-under par finish in which the tournament was never in doubt. It was also the week after winning his second Masters title and second major championship before his two 2025 victories at The PGA Championship and The Open.
With McIlroy noticeably absent once again from this tournament, Scheffler figures to be the clear favorite despite the strong field.
Perhaps not the betting favorite, but certainly a fan favorite, Justin Thomas figures to make a strong case to retain his title and put on the plaid jacket for a second year in a row.
JT’s 2025 victory at The Heritage was his first professional win since the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills. The win also remains JT’s only victory since that time. There will be extra pressure on JT not only to repeat as champion, but to earn another victory to build another winning streak.
Last April JT finished the tournament with a final score of 17-under par including rounds of 61, 69, 69, and 68 which drew him even with Andrew Novak, winner of the 2025 Zurich Classic.
Thomas eventually outlasted Novak and picked up the incredibly elusive victory for his first win in three years!
Last season Young finished T62 with a final score of even par at Harbour Town.
Back then we didn’t know too much about Cam Young and wondered where his career was going despite being a solid golfer every weekend.
Sufficed to say, this year will be a little different.
This past fall, Young burst onto the screen with an improbable win at the 2026 Players, his second-ever pro victory, and certainly the biggest of his young career.
A favorite to win the Masters, Young went into Championship Sunday tied with McIlroy for the lead but faltered heavily down the stretch, failing to score as Rory held on for the narrowest of victories. Despite the tough loss, Young’s T3 finish at Augusta gave us another glimpse as to what is in store for the Wake Forest product as his career accolades seem to grow with every passing month.
Cam figures to be a top contender for the plaid jacket and increase his career win total to three!
