Son Muntaner has once again proven it’s no ordinary stretch of fairway. The flagship of Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca has been crowned Spain’s Best Golf Course at the 2025 World Golf Awards — a triumph that feels about as surprising as finding sand on a beach.
When you put a course like Son Muntaner in front of the golf-loving public, they tend to speak loudly, and this year they roared.
The award, decided entirely by international golfers, holidaymakers and the wider golf industry, cements the course’s standing as one of Europe’s standout destinations — the sort of place golfers drop into Mallorca for and leave plotting their return before they’ve even handed back the buggy keys.
Bernat Llobera, Director of Golf at Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca, didn’t mince his words: “To be chosen as Spain’s best by public vote is a tremendous honour. It acknowledges the championship quality of the course, from the inspired design to our cutting-edge sustainability work.
This recognition is for the entire Arabella team, confirming our position not just as a beautiful course, but as a leader in Spanish golf.”
And he’s right. As a proud member of European Tour Destinations — a collection of venues that don’t believe in doing things by halves — Son Muntaner has long carried a reputation that stretches far beyond the Mediterranean.
With a résumé that includes hosting the DP World Tour’s 2022 Mallorca Golf Open and the 2023 Mallorca Ladies Golf Open on the Ladies European Tour, this is a course that doesn’t need to drop names. Its history does it for them.
A Course Designed to Test, Tempt and Triumph
Kurt Rossknecht’s design, unveiled in 2000, takes the island’s natural contours and turns them into 7,000 yards of strategic mischief. Two loops of nine weave through historic stone dykes, gentle elevation changes, and greens shaped like hourglasses — though they probably feel more like pinholes if your approach game is having an off day. Every hole forces you to think, commit, and occasionally pray.
Son Muntaner has kept evolving too. The resort recently rolled out a new fleet of electric buggies and brought TopTracer technology to the driving range — a polite way of saying you’ll no longer be able to lie about your carry distances.
Leading the Charge in Sustainable Golf
Where Son Muntaner really pulls ahead of the pack is its environmental work. Under its ambitious ‘Green Evolution’ strategy, the course uses 100% reclaimed and regenerated water for irrigation and was the first in Europe to introduce Celebration Bermudagrass — a drought-tolerant turf that keeps playing conditions slick while cutting water usage dramatically. It’s the future of golf course management, delivered without fuss or fanfare.
A 63-Hole Playground in the Mediterranean

As the centrepiece of Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca — the Mediterranean’s largest golf destination — Son Muntaner sits within a 63-hole offering that feels purpose-built for golf pilgrims.
The resort’s lineup includes three 18-hole championship courses, a 9-hole short course, a golf academy, and two standout hotels: Castillo Hotel Son Vida and Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel. Both deliver the sort of hospitality that makes “just one more night” a dangerous phrase.
Fine dining, spa amenities, family-friendly activities and a location less than 20 minutes from Palma airport seal the deal. It’s the full package: golf that tests you, food that spoils you, and scenery that reminds you the world isn’t all doom and gloom.
