Women In Golf Society Scoops ‘Best Initiative’ For Championing Women Across The Game

The Women In Golf Society has just scooped the Best Initiative title at the Women in Golf Awards, and it’s about time. The Women In Golf Society has been quietly – and sometimes not so quietly – reshaping the landscape for women working in the sport, and this honour at Foxhills Golf Club cements what many inside the industry already knew.

A Community Built The Right Way

Founded by Ali McGuirk of Prince’s Golf Club and Dolores Brown of Golf Breaks, the Society has become a rare corner of golf where women can show up, be themselves, and get something meaningful out of it. Backed by category sponsor PING, the award recognises a surge in impact: stronger connections, more opportunities, and a growing sense of belonging for women building careers in the game.

WIGS was created for those already in the business and those trying to nudge the door open. It uses golf as it should be used more often – as a leveller and a meeting place. Newcomers return to the sport, career starters find mentors, and seasoned pros exchange stories, all without the pressure cooker atmosphere that so often shadows professional spaces. Events, meet-ups and an active online community now act as the glue that holds this increasingly influential network together.

Where Connections Become Careers

The Society’s busy calendar has already taken members to major events like the AIG Women’s Open, and to some of the UK’s most respected venues, including Prince’s Golf Club, Essendon Golf Club, The Grove, Frilford Heath and Foxhills. These gatherings have produced exactly the kind of momentum the industry keeps saying it wants – cross-generational support, genuine friendships and opportunities born from simple conversations over a round of golf.

Some attendees have discovered the sport for the first time; others have broadened their career prospects. In one standout case, a young woman secured a placement at an elite London golf club thanks to WIGS connections – a reminder that progress often starts with a single introduction.

A Voice Growing Beyond The UK

What began as a UK-focused project has expanded its footprint. The Society has featured on podcasts, delivered online sessions to universities and collaborated with LINKS Scotland, all while pushing its message across borders. Its representation at the PGA Show in the United States has already opened new channels, and the team will be heading back stateside in January 2026 to continue the momentum.

The Leadership Behind The Movement

“This award is a proud and meaningful milestone for everyone involved,” said Ali McGuirk, Founder of Women in Golf Society. “We started the Society to create a space where women in the industry – and those looking to join it – could connect through golf, feel supported, and grow in confidence. To be recognised with the Best Initiative award at Foxhills, supported by PING, is incredibly special. We’re excited to build on this momentum into 2026 and beyond.”

What’s Coming In 2026

WIGS will be widening its UK footprint next year, adding more fixtures to its already bustling calendar. With new events planned for the north of England, the Society is making sure that geography is no barrier to access – a welcome shift for an industry that’s not always been democratically spread.

Women looking to join this growing network or dip a toe into the game can connect through the Society’s social channels, LinkedIn, or sign up directly here:

If this is what progress looks like in golf, then the game is finally moving in the right direction.
