Arabella Golf Resort Unveils SATGOLF: AI Weather System Leading the Charge in Sustainable Golf

Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca isn’t leaving course conditions up to chance. The award-winning 63-hole resort has launched SATGOLF, a cutting-edge AI-powered early warning weather system designed to monitor environmental conditions in real time.

By anticipating extreme weather and fine-tuning irrigation across its courses, Arabella Golf Resort is marrying old-world golfing charm with futuristic precision.

Backed by a €150,000 subsidised investment co-financed through the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme, the installation cements the resort’s reputation as one of Europe’s most environmentally responsible golf destinations and a leader in sustainable golf tourism.

SATGOLF integrates advanced climate sensors, smart cameras, artificial intelligence and predictive algorithms to track everything from heavy rainfall and strong winds to lightning activity and soil moisture. It’s like giving the greenkeeping team their own personal meteorological crystal ball—without the smoke and robes.

Bernat Llobera, Director of Golf at Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca, explained the impact: “Implementing the new SATGOLF AI-powered technology represents a major step forward in how we manage and irrigate our golf courses.

The real-time data on rainfall and soil humidity allows our greenkeeping team to plan and target irrigation, reducing water consumption while ensuring premium playing conditions.

“In addition to precise irrigation management, the SATGOLF system also allows for resource optimisation and generates public value by monitoring climate change and water stress on the island.

By combining innovation with environmental stewardship, we’re not only improving course conditioning, we’re building a more resilient, climate-conscious golf destination.

“As the only golf resort on the island with GEO Certified® status across all three of our championship courses, alongside ISO 14001 and EMAS accreditations, our goal is to lead by example and demonstrate how technology can help golf align with global sustainability targets.”

SATGOLF is the latest milestone in Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca’s ambitious Green Evolution strategy, a long-term programme focused on water management, energy use, environmental protection and responsible resource consumption.

It’s fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—a reminder that meaningful change often starts close to home, or in this case, on the fairway.

Across its 63 holes and three clubhouses, Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca has already racked up an impressive list of eco-achievements:

  • 100% reclaimed and regenerated water for irrigation, reusing 820,000 m³ in 2024 alone.
  • Replacement of chemicals with organic phytosanitary products.
  • Golf Son Muntaner became Europe’s first course to adopt Celebration Bermudagrass, a drought-tolerant turf that slashes water use without compromising playability.
  • An on-site organic vegetable garden producing “Na Capitana” almonds, olives, capers, honey, olive oil and gin—all sustainable, zero-kilometre products.
  • Biodiversity initiatives, including bee colonies, native tree planting and habitat conservation.
  • Elimination of single-use plastic bottles, replaced by reverse osmosis refill stations.
  • 100% green energy use, sourced entirely from renewables.
  • Installation of photovoltaic panels and electric car charging at Golf Son Muntaner.
  • A fully electric buggy fleet, hybrid maintenance machinery, and complimentary electric shuttles linking hotels and courses to cut emissions further.

By weaving SATGOLF into this sustainability tapestry, Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca isn’t just future-proofing its operations—it’s setting a global benchmark for how golf can embrace technology without losing its soul.

This is golf with foresight: precision irrigation, climate resilience, and a swing at environmental responsibility that actually connects.
