Star Power Builds as Hovland, Straka, Højgaards Join BMW PGA Championship Field

The BMW PGA Championship returns to Wentworth Club from September 9-14, and if you thought the field was already glittering, wait until you see who’s just joined the party.

Viktor Hovland, Sepp Straka, and Danish double-trouble Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard are the latest marquee names confirmed for what promises to be a rollicking week of world-class golf, live music, and enough Pro-Am banter to make your caddie blush.

Between them, the quartet brings 21 titles across the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR, and they’ll be joining the likes of Rory McIlroy, Billy Horschel, Ludvig Åberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Robert MacIntyre, Justin Rose, and Adam Scott in what’s shaping up to be the strongest field this side of a major.

Weekend General Admission tickets for the BMW PGA Championship are already sold out, and the rest are vanishing quicker than a Ryder Cup captain’s sleep schedule.

Hovland’s Back—and He’s Got Unfinished Business

Norway’s Viktor Hovland, fresh off rehab for a wrist injury that kept him out of last year’s edition, is itching to tee it up on the iconic West Course for the fifth time. His previous two visits? Back-to-back T5 finishes.

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Wentworth – it was disappointing to miss last year, because the event has become a real highlight of my schedule,” said Hovland. “My last two performances were positive, so I’m hoping to back those up when I return in September.”

If he’s healthy and the putter behaves, Hovland will be a serious threat to hoist the trophy.

Straka’s Swinging for New York

Sepp Straka’s had himself a season. Two PGA TOUR victories—at The American Express and the Truist Championship—have him riding a heater heading into September.

The Austrian big man is eyeing a second Ryder Cup appearance at Bethpage next year, but first, it’s his third trip to Wentworth.

“I’m excited to return to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship,” said Straka. “I’ve had two really good experiences of the event so far and I’m sure this year will be no different.”

You get the feeling Sepp likes his steak medium-rare and his courses just shy of brutal—Wentworth may be right up his alley.

Double Trouble: The Højgaard Boys Are Coming

If you’re seeing double, don’t adjust your spectacles. Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard, the eerily identical Danish twins who swing like Thor and putt like Loki, have both been busy of late.

They each cracked the top 20 at The Open at Portrush, and both now hold PGA TOUR cards after standout seasons.

Nicolai, fresh off a win at the 2023 DP World Tour Championship, returns for his fifth BMW PGA Championship start.

His brother Rasmus is coming in hot too, having outdueled Rory McIlroy to win last year’s Amgen Irish Open en route to a second-place Race to Dubai finish.

“It’ll be great to return to Wentworth later this year as part of an exciting run of events in September,” said Rasmus. “I’ve really enjoyed the week since making my first appearance there in 2020, the course is a great test and one we enjoy playing.”

Nicolai added, “The BMW PGA Championship is one of the best events of the season. The fans are fantastic and there is a great atmosphere during the whole week. I know it’s an event we all anticipate, so we’re looking forward to getting back there in a few weeks’ time.”

The Off-Course Circus: Celebs, Concerts, and Crowd Chaos

More than 100,000 fans are expected through the gates during the week. Razorlight headlines Saturday’s live music show, while Ella Henderson closes things out Sunday.

It’s a golf tournament, yes—but it’s also a festival. You’ll find the real rough in the Spectator Village after the third pint of lager and a pulled pork bap.

Wednesday’s Celebrity Pro-Am will see sporting royalty swap studs for spikes: Sir Andy Murray, Gareth Bale, Ben Stokes, and F1’s Lando Norris will try not to embarrass themselves alongside the pros.

Travel Tips and Ticket Warnings

For those smart enough to plan ahead, BMW Group owners get on-site parking perks, while mere mortals can use free shuttles from Virginia Water or Park & Ride services at Ascot and Sunningdale (Broomhall Farm, to be exact).

Just don’t wait until the last minute—on-the-day parking jumps from £10 to £15 unless you’ve locked in a pass.

General Admission tickets for the weekend are gone. The premium “Ticket+” experience is sold out across the board.

There’s a whiff of exclusivity in the air, but if you’re quick, a handful of “Green on 18” tickets remain for Saturday. Other hospitality options are flying too—click [here] if you fancy your chances.

Final Word

If the BMW PGA Championship is the jewel in the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series crown, this year it’s shining brighter than ever.

With Hovland healed, Straka surging, and the Højgaards heating up, the West Course at Wentworth is about to be the centre of the golfing universe—for one unforgettable week in September.

Bring your hat, bring your cheer, and for heaven’s sake, bring your phone charger. You’re going to need it.
