I visited the 6,900-square-foot venue at 1 Finsbury Avenue ahead of the PIF London Championship and found something more convincing than a bank of expensive screens: an indoor golf club that understands Londoners are short of time, space and patience for ceremonial fuss.
A Golf Club Without the Cold Shoulder
Traditional golf venues can make a first-time visitor feel as though they have wandered into a private meeting and sat in the captain’s chair. Broadgate takes the opposite route.
The room is polished but relaxed, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a private terrace and simulator bays built into the social space rather than hidden away like dental surgeries. The technology is obvious, yet it does not swallow the atmosphere. People can practise seriously, play badly with friends or order dinner without any of those activities appearing to offend the furniture.
Five Iron Golf is not a sports bar that happens to own some clubs, nor a driving range with a drinks licence attached as an afterthought. Golf remains the main event; it has simply been stripped of the frostier rituals.

TrackMan Has No Interest in Your Excuses
The eight simulator bays give the venue its golfing credibility. Each uses TrackMan technology to follow launch, ball flight and distance, returning the evidence almost immediately.
It is impressive, useful and entirely unsympathetic.
Golfers are inventive creatures when explaining a poor shot. The mat slipped. The room moved. Mercury was probably in retrograde. TrackMan responds with numbers, which is less comforting but considerably more useful.
Better players can examine patterns, work with a coach and chase tighter dispersion. Newer golfers get something simpler: hit the ball, watch it fly on screen and try again. There is no walk to a distant patch of wet rough to confirm the obvious.
More than 440 virtual courses are available, while professional instruction, club fitting, memberships, leagues and tournaments add substance beyond a one-off night out. Complimentary Callaway rental clubs also remove the need to carry a full set through Liverpool Street at rush hour, an activity few people admire.
The Bar Supports the Golf Rather Than Hiding It
The hospitality offer is broad: tapas, artisan sourdough pizzas, burgers and sharing plates, backed by cocktails, wine, champagne, spritzes and premium beers. Large-format screens show live sport.
That could have produced a venue with golf reduced to decorative wallpaper. It has not.
During the preview, the bays created the energy. People watched one another’s shots, offered advice of varying legal value and discovered that a golf swing becomes much funnier when replayed in public. The bar gives groups a reason to stay; the game gives them something to discuss beyond quarterly targets.

Why Broadgate Is a Sensible First Tee
A City location is not incidental to the idea. London has golfers in abundance but spare land, free afternoons and dependable weather remain less generously distributed.
At Broadgate, a player can practise before work, book a lesson at lunch or meet friends for an evening round. The format compresses golf into something compatible with a working day without turning it into a toy version of the sport.
The site is the first to open under a 10-venue UK franchise agreement. Founded in New York in 2017, Five Iron Golf has expanded by placing the game in urban settings where convenience matters as much as tradition. Broadgate is a logical test: central, busy and surrounded by people who may like golf but have no intention of surrendering five hours to it on a Wednesday.
Its arrival also precedes the PIF London Championship at Centurion Club from 6–9 August 2026. The tournament will present elite women’s golf over four days; Broadgate offers the public a quicker route from watching the game to trying it.

The corporate language is ambitious. The stronger argument was visible around the bays, where serious golfers, complete newcomers and social groups occupied the same room without anyone seeming misplaced.
The Verdict on Five Iron Golf London
Five Iron Golf London works because it does not ask every visitor to want the same thing.
The committed player gets detailed data, coaching and a place to practise. The curious newcomer gets clubs, help and an environment free from the suspicion that everybody else knows an important rule. Friends and colleagues get a social activity with enough jeopardy to keep the evening moving.
The venue is sophisticated without becoming precious, welcoming without turning golf into a gimmick and central enough to make regular use realistic. Most importantly, it preserves the game’s essential character: a good strike feels marvellous, a poor one is recorded in forensic detail, and the next swing always seems likely to solve the entire business.
Centurion will soon show London how the best players handle pressure. Broadgate gives everybody else a well-stocked place to manufacture some.
