From Dawn to Dusk: How Murrayshall’s Robot Army is Redefining Golf Course Perfection

It’s not every day you see a six-figure deal sprout from the turf in Perthshire, but Murrayshall, the much-loved Country Estate just a well-struck 7-iron from Perth, has gone and done it—arming its greenkeeping team with a fleet of Husqvarna robotic mowers. The goal? To fine-tune its US parkland-style layout into something that makes Augusta look like your local municipal.

Part of a bold partnership with owners Stellar Asset Management, these state-of-the-art lawn whisperers have been programmed to roam the rough, fairways, and green surrounds three times a week. The result is a consistent cut, healthier grass, and year-round playability that should keep even the most pernickety single-handicappers purring.

But this isn’t just about replacing elbow grease with Swedish tech. With the bots clocking in during the early morning and late evening shifts, the greenkeeping crew can focus on the fiddly, presentation-perfecting tasks that make the Championship and Lynedoch courses shine across all 365 acres of Murrayshall’s scenic estate.

“Golfers are always striving to play on the very best surfaces all year and our investment in the Husqvarna robotic lawnmowers has been a game-changer in making this a reality,” said Gary Silcock, Murrayshall’s General Manager. “Our very talented greenkeeping team can now hone their skills on other essential work around the estate to deliver the best possible product for members and visitors to enjoy.”

Laser Precision and Smartphone Greenskeeping

Golf Course Manager Darrin Urquhart, a 17-year veteran of Murrayshall, has seen—and now heard—the difference.

“The laser-sharp cut and overall definition has made a noticeable difference to how the course is presented, while the feedback we’re receiving from golfers has been incredibly positive which is fantastic to hear,” Urquhart said.

And it’s not just about the quality; it’s about control. With GPS navigation, Urquhart can plot which areas get a trim and when—all from his smartphone. “It’s a big help from a productivity standpoint,” he added, presumably while enjoying the kind of course mapping usually reserved for military reconnaissance.

Green Credentials and a Long Game

The easy-to-change blades and long life span of the mowers boost Murrayshall’s sustainability game. Regular, lightweight mowing means lower emissions, less wear and tear, and fewer repair bills—shrinking both the club’s carbon footprint and maintenance headaches.

The investment was made possible with a little help from Golf Finance, the asset finance specialists who make big-ticket machinery purchases less painful than a three-putt from four feet.

“In working with Golf Finance on this purchase, we have been able to achieve a tournament-level set up in a financially sustainable manner, while also allowing us to deliver a best-in-class experience and the finest playing surfaces in Scotland,” said Silcock.

Neil Henderson, Director at Golf Finance, was quick to tip his cap to the project: “It’s been a pleasure working with Murrayshall and Stellar Asset Management to help take their course maintenance to the next level.

Their adoption of robotic mowers ensures world-class conditions while supporting sustainability goals. With finance solutions that spread major investments over manageable terms, clubs can future-proof their facilities without straining budgets.”

So, the next time you stroll down Murrayshall’s manicured fairways, know this: somewhere, quietly humming away, a little Swedish robot is doing its part to make your round that much better.
