Nelly Korda Clinches 2026 LPGA Player of the Year With Hall of Fame in Sight

Four victories, another season-long award secured before the final tournament and just one point separating her from the LPGA Hall of Fame. Nelly Korda’s 2026 campaign has already delivered plenty, but there could be an even bigger milestone to come.

Nelly Korda has made a habit of settling the LPGA’s biggest individual award before everyone else has finished playing.

The American has secured the 2026 Rolex LPGA Player of the Year Award with three tournaments still remaining, becoming the first player in the past decade to clinch the honour twice before the season-ending event.

For the 28-year-old Floridian, it is another significant achievement in a season featuring four tournament victories, including the Chevron Championship. More importantly, it takes her to within a single point of qualifying for the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Not a bad position to be in with two tournaments still on her calendar.

Korda has led the Player of the Year standings since winning the Chevron Championship, building a commanding advantage through a remarkably productive 2026 campaign.

Heading into the LPGA Tour’s autumn Asian swing, she held a 75-point lead over a chasing group featuring Haeran Ryu, Jeeno Thitikul and Miyu Yamashita.

The mathematics were becoming increasingly uncomfortable for her rivals.

Ryu still had a possible route to the award, although it required an extraordinary finish. With four events remaining on her schedule, she needed two victories, a runner-up finish or better and another result of eighth or better to stand a chance.

She kept that possibility alive by finishing second at the BMW Ladies Championship, but her withdrawal before the opening round of the Maybank Championship ended her challenge.

For Thitikul and Yamashita, the situation was equally demanding.

Both were scheduled to compete in the TOTO Japan Classic and CME Group Tour Championship, but each needed three victories to have any chance of overtaking Korda.

That meant entering The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican was essential.

When the tournament’s entry deadline passed at 5pm Eastern Time on 3 November, the remaining mathematical possibilities disappeared.

The LPGA subsequently confirmed Korda as its 2026 Player of the Year.

A Second Early Coronation in Three Seasons

There is something particularly impressive about winning a season-long award without needing the season’s final event to settle matters.

Korda has now managed it twice.

In 2024, she secured the Rolex Player of the Year title with three tournaments remaining. Her 2026 achievement follows the same pattern, making her the only player over the past ten years to clinch the award twice before the season finale.

The award itself has been part of the LPGA since 1966 and recognises consistency across the entire campaign.

Players earn points for top-ten finishes at official LPGA Tour events, with double points available at the five major championships.

Those majors are the Chevron Championship, KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, US Women’s Open, Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open.

Previous recipients include Annika Sorenstam, Lorena Ochoa, Inbee Park, Lydia Ko and Jeeno Thitikul.

It is distinguished company, and Korda’s latest success strengthens an already considerable record.

One Point Away From the LPGA Hall of Fame

The Player of the Year trophy is significant enough on its own. For Korda, however, its contribution towards Hall of Fame qualification could prove even more important.

Each Rolex Player of the Year award carries one LPGA Hall of Fame point.

Her 2026 success lifts Korda’s career total to 26, leaving her just one short of the required 27-point threshold.

Under the LPGA’s points system, players can move towards that mark through official tournament victories, major championship wins, the Vare Trophy for the season’s lowest scoring average or Olympic gold medals.

A regular LPGA Tour victory earns one point, while a major championship win is worth two.

For Korda, the most immediate opportunity is straightforward: win one of her remaining tournaments.

She is scheduled to compete at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican and the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, giving her two opportunities to collect that final point before 2026 concludes.

The Vare Trophy will not provide an alternative route this season, as Korda has not completed the minimum number of rounds required to qualify.

That leaves tournament success as her remaining opportunity this year.

When Will Nelly Korda Receive Her Award?

Korda will formally receive her 2026 Rolex LPGA Player of the Year Award at the Rolex LPGA Awards on Tuesday, 17 November, during the week of the CME Group Tour Championship.

The ceremony will recognise a season in which she has already accumulated four victories and settled the Player of the Year contest before the final tournament.

Yet the most intriguing part of her year may still be ahead.

With 26 Hall of Fame points secured and two tournaments left to play, Korda has the chance to turn another outstanding season into a historic career milestone.

The Player of the Year trophy is already hers. One more victory would take her to the Hall of Fame points threshold.
