OGIO carry-on luggage has a new recruit. The brand has expanded its Rise collection with hard-sided Carry-On and Checked luggage, taking a range previously centred on everyday bags and softer travel pieces firmly into the departure lounge.

New Aloe colourways have arrived too, because apparently even luggage wardrobes are expected to coordinate these days.

The two new cases come in black, vanilla and mahogany rose, extending the Rise aesthetic into proper wheeled luggage while retaining the collection’s emphasis on clean design and organisation.

It is a logical move for OGIO. The company has spent years making bags for people who carry rather a lot of kit around — golfers being especially talented in this department — and Rise has increasingly pushed that expertise beyond the course and into work, commuting and travel.

Now it has wheels.

The Rise Carry-On takes centre stage

The Rise Carry-On is probably the most interesting addition.

Carry-on cases occupy a particularly unforgiving corner of the travel market. They need to swallow enough for a few days away without becoming an engineering project at the gate, and they are expected to move from airport to hotel to train without behaving like a supermarket trolley with a grudge.

OGIO is positioning the Rise model as a stylish, organised option for travellers who want their luggage to work alongside the rest of their everyday kit rather than exist as an entirely separate purchase.

That matters because Rise has been designed as a collection rather than a succession of unrelated bags. The new luggage therefore sits alongside products such as the Rise Weekender Duffel, Crossbody and Everyday Tote, allowing someone to build a fairly coherent travel set without everything looking painfully matched.

There is a distinction.

Black remains the safe choice — luggage’s equivalent of a navy blazer — while vanilla gives the case a lighter, more contemporary appearance. Mahogany rose offers more personality and, one suspects, a considerably easier time identifying your property among the regiment of black rectangles circling baggage reclaim.

Checked luggage gives Rise room to grow

Alongside the Carry-On is the new Rise Checked Luggage, taking the collection beyond weekends and short business trips.

It is an important addition for the range because a collection built around travel eventually has to confront the inconvenient truth that not everybody can fit a week’s belongings into something approved for the overhead locker.

Some people can. They tend to mention it.

For everyone else, the checked case gives Rise a larger-format option in the same three colours and allows OGIO to offer luggage for both ends of a journey: the case disappearing down the conveyor belt and the smaller bag remaining firmly within sight.

The broader appeal is consistency. Travellers who already use a Rise tote or weekender can now stay within the same design family rather than assembling a collection that looks as though each piece was purchased during a separate airport emergency.

Aloe freshens up the existing Rise collection

The hard-sided cases are the headline additions, but OGIO has also extended the Rise colour palette.

Aloe is now available across selected existing pieces, including the Rise Weekender Duffel, Rise Crossbody, Rise Everyday Tote and Rise Bottle Pouch.

It is a softer direction than the darker, more traditional luggage colours and gives the collection a little more character without tipping into the sort of shade that can be spotted from low Earth orbit.

More importantly, the addition makes sense within OGIO’s attempt to position Rise somewhere between travel equipment and everyday lifestyle gear.

A weekender should be capable of surviving an airport, certainly, but most spend considerably more of their lives being carried into hotels, offices, cars and railway stations. The same is true of totes and crossbody bags. They need to look at home away from the check-in desk.

That crossover has been central to the collection.

From everyday bags to a complete travel range

The significance of the launch is less about OGIO suddenly deciding to make a suitcase and more about how far Rise has travelled as a collection.

Its existing products cover the smaller moments of a journey: the tote under the seat, the crossbody holding the important bits and the weekender tasked with maintaining the fiction that you have packed lightly.

Carry-on and checked luggage fill the obvious gaps.

For OGIO, that creates a broader lifestyle range with a recognisable identity. For customers, it makes the collection more useful. Someone who likes the look and organisation of one Rise product can now take the same approach into longer trips.

There is also an obvious relevance for golfers.

A golf trip rarely involves only golf equipment. There is the golf bag, of course, followed by shoes, waterproofs, clothing, chargers, wash bags and whatever optimistic number of outfits seemed reasonable while packing. Add an airport and a few transfers and good luggage stops being an accessory remarkably quickly.

The Rise expansion does not replace specialist golf travel gear, nor is it intended to. It deals with everything travelling alongside it.

A sensible step for OGIO Rise

Without putting the cases through several airports, a railway platform and the attentions of a particularly enthusiastic baggage handler, there is little point pretending to offer a durability verdict. Those judgements are earned rather than extracted from a product announcement.

The proposition itself, though, is easy enough to understand.

OGIO has taken an established collection built around organisation and contemporary styling and filled the most conspicuous hole in it. The Rise range can now handle the daily commute, the weekend away and the longer trip without changing design language halfway through.
