As the final women’s Major of the season tees off in coastal Wales, the VOXA sand mural on Rest Bay beach has already stolen the early spotlight—proof that sometimes the most powerful swings happen outside the ropes.
Crafted quite literally in the sand by artist Rachel Shiamh, the massive artwork features a female golfer mid-swing, etched across the shore like a monument to movement, momentum, and the rising wave of women’s golf.
It’s the handiwork of VOXA—the women’s golf team brainchild of Suzann Pettersen—who are clearly done waiting for the tide to turn. They’re dragging it in themselves.
From China’s Ronni Yin to Mexico’s Gaby Lopez, Spain’s Carlota Ciganda, Singapore’s Shannon Tan, Germany’s Sophia Popov, Malaysia’s Ashley Lau, and French phenom Adela Cernousek, VOXA’s international roster is less a team and more a declaration. These are players not just chasing trophies, but rewriting the script of what’s possible—and who gets to swing at it.
Shiamh, who painted the beach with nothing but sand, soul and saltwater, brought more than just artistry to the project. She brought legacy.

“I’ve been creating sand art for years; it brings me pure joy and a deep sense of connection being at one with the sea,” Shiamh said. “My father was an Olympic sprinter and later team manager of the British athletics team. He was a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment through sport.
“To be part of this celebration of women’s golf on this beach with the tide rising around us feels both personal and powerful. I’m proud to carry forward his legacy in my own way.”
Frankly, you’d need a heart of granite and a bunker rake for a soul not to be moved by that.

But this VOXA sand mural isn’t just a stunt—it’s a statement. In a sport that can still smell a bit too much like the 1800s, VOXA is cracking open the clubhouse door and inviting the next generation in.
Their vision is as bold as a Sunday pin: global representation, fierce individuality, and a refusal to play second fiddle—not to the men’s game, nor to history.
And with the gallery swelling in nearby Porthcawl as the AIG Women’s Open begins, you can’t help but sense the ambition in the air. Maybe—just maybe—women’s golf is inching toward the roar that welcomed the Lionesses home.
If the VOXA mural is anything to go by, this movement isn’t being whispered. It’s being shouted into the waves.
