Aramco China Championship Set to Close PIF Global Series in Spectacular Style at Mission Hills

As the Aramco China Championship prepares to take centre stage at Mission Hills—the grand finale of the 2025 PIF Global Series—the event is being hailed as a landmark for global sport, women’s empowerment, and international cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia.

Vice President of Mission Hills Group, Tenniel Chu, couldn’t hide his anticipation ahead of the event, calling it both “a grand celebration of athletic excellence” and “an important platform for athletes from around the world to connect and compete.”

“I’m incredibly excited about the PIF Global Series being held at Mission Hills. This tournament is not only a grand celebration of athletic excellence but also an important platform for athletes from around the world to connect and compete.

The dedication and passion of the athletes, combined with the enthusiastic support of the audience, fill the entire tournament with energy and excitement. I can’t wait to witness the thrilling matchups and outstanding performances – moments that will truly be unforgettable!”

Chu described the Aramco China Championship as more than just a golf tournament—it’s a powerful bridge linking cultures and driving investment into women’s golf at a time when the sport’s profile is rising across Asia.

“The tournament brings together the world’s top female golfers, providing an international platform to showcase Chinese women’s golf and enhance its presence in the global sports community.

As an international event, it also promotes cultural and athletic exchange, giving rising Chinese stars such as Yujie Liu and Ying Xu, both of whom began their journeys at the Mission Hills youth tournament before joining the national youth team, the chance to compete alongside world-class players and learn from the best.”

He added that the tournament’s growing prestige has sparked a wave of commercial interest. “With the tournament’s growing popularity, more enterprises and sponsors are showing interest in women’s golf, driving greater investment and support for the sport.

In essence, the Aramco China Championship is more than just a competition; it is a vital opportunity to advance the development and global recognition of women’s golf.”

The collaboration between Mission Hills and Golf Saudi is also deeply aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative—a strategy to diversify the nation’s economy and expand opportunities for women in sport.

“Mission Hills is committed to empowering women through sports, which resonates with Saudi Arabia’s efforts,” Chu explained. “Both parties are promoting women’s participation in sports and the development of women’s golf.”

Chu also pointed to growing tourism between the two nations as a catalyst for deeper cooperation.

“In 2024, Saudi Arabia welcomed 140,000 Chinese tourists, making China the second-largest source of tourists,” he noted. “The first step to achieving future growth is mutual visa-free travel between the two countries.

This year, China has already implemented visa-free entry for Saudi tourists, including Hainan Province, which previously offered visa-free entry to 59 countries.”

Standing on the pristine fairways of Mission Hills’ World Cup Course, Chu reflected on the broader potential of sport to unite people and foster mutual understanding.

“The common interests of the two countries in sports and tourism can promote their respective economic development,” he said. “High-end sports events such as golf attract substantial investment and consumption, which can drive the growth of the tourism industry. Sports activities facilitate cultural exchanges and deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.”

The Aramco China Championship marks the fifth and final stop on the 2025 PIF Global Series—following earlier events in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, England, and the United States. The Ladies European Tour season will then wrap up later in November with its grand finale in Andalucía, Spain.

Golf fans can expect a festival of elite women’s golf—a fitting conclusion to a season that’s taken the game around the world and back.
