For spectators, the appeal is simple: elite golf, familiar faces and just enough theatre to make a quiet walk through Surrey feel suspiciously like an occasion.
Rose Returns for a 21st Wentworth Appearance
Rose will make his 21st appearance in the championship, a number that suggests both loyalty and an admirable refusal to tire of the West Course’s more argumentative corners. Ranked world number 11, he arrives after claiming his 13th PGA TOUR title at the Farmer’s Insurance Open in January.
His record hardly needs decorative lighting: the 2013 U.S. Open, Olympic gold in 2016 and seven Ryder Cup appearances, the latest coming in Europe’s victory at Bethpage Black last September.
“I always enjoy coming back to the BMW PGA Championship and especially playing in front of my home crowd. I’ve played this event a lot over the years and it continues to be a genuine highlight of my season.”
Hatton Has Unfinished Business at Wentworth
Hatton knows precisely how it feels to win here. He lifted the trophy in 2020 and returns seeking another run at a title that mattered to him long before he had the chance to contest it.
The eight-time DP World Tour winner also secured his fifth Rolex Series title in Dubai last January. Few players wear competitive irritation quite so openly, but Wentworth has already proved that the emotional weather can be productive.
“Winning the BMW PGA Championship was very special for me. It’s a tournament that I grew up watching, and being able to lift that trophy in front of English fans was a truly memorable moment. I always look forward to getting back to Wentworth and would love to have more success there.”
Penge Arrives as More Than the Local Prospect
Penge finished tied 13th on his BMW PGA Championship debut last year. That respectable first look at Wentworth became a footnote in a season featuring three DP World Tour victories and second place behind Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai rankings.
The 28-year-old was also voted the 2025 Seve Ballesteros Award winner by his fellow players. He therefore returns not as a promising supporting act but as a golfer entitled to occupy the sharper end of the conversation.

McIlroy Leads a Field with Little Room for Passengers
Six-time major winner McIlroy heads the wider cast, joined by the past three BMW PGA Championship winners: Alex Noren, Billy Horschel and newly crowned Open champion Ryan Fox.
Aaron Rai adds another English major winner to the line-up, while Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Åberg, Sepp Straka and Hatton supply a sizeable portion of Europe’s recent Ryder Cup muscle. It is the sort of field that makes the first-tee introductions feel less like administration and more like a roll call.
Tickets Tighten as Wentworth Prepares for Another Crowd
The tournament again stretches beyond the ropes. The Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am returns, while The Kooks and Ella Eyre are scheduled as weekend headline acts on the Amazon Leo Showstage.
The Spectator Village will carry the rest of the festival atmosphere, helped by the small matter of more than 100,000 spectators expected across the week.
Ticket availability is already narrowing. At the time of publication, Saturday general admission is sold out and Friday availability is limited. Friday’s Treetops presented by Buffalo Trace and all Premium Experience options are sold out, while The Green on 18 is unavailable throughout the week. Treetops is sold out from Friday to Sunday, with limited spaces on Wednesday and Thursday.
BMW Group owners will receive preferred parking, and a free shuttle will run from Virginia Water railway station for all spectators.

Wentworth rarely lacks polish. In September, with Rose returning, Hatton prowling and Penge advancing, it may also have rather more bite.
