McIlroy Returns to Dubai With History in His Sights at the 2025 DP World Tour Championship

Rory McIlroy, the green-jacketed maestro of modern golf, is set to return to Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 13–16 to defend his title at the DP World Tour Championship — the crown jewel of the European season and a Rolex Series event that’s seen more drama than a Hollywood divorce court.

The DP World Tour Championship has long been a happy hunting ground for McIlroy, who put on a clinic in 2024 to capture his third win at the Earth Course and, in the process, tie the late, great Seve Ballesteros with a sixth Race to Dubai title.

That feat alone would’ve had Seve grinning under a floppy visor, and it’s moved the 36-year-old Northern Irishman to within sniffing distance — just two titles — of Colin Montgomerie’s all-time record.

“I’ve played some great golf this year and I’m looking forward to finishing strong again in front of the fans at Jumeirah Golf Estates,” said McIlroy, with the sort of understatement that only a man with a career Grand Slam can get away with.

And finish strong he must. Rory currently leads the Race to Dubai standings by a narrow 1,109.51-point margin over Tyrrell Hatton — a man who swings like he’s been personally insulted by every flagstick on the course.

The DP World Tour Championship will cap off what’s already been a glittering 2025 season for McIlroy. He finally completed his elusive career Grand Slam at Augusta in April, a victory so overdue it felt biblical.

Throw in a fourth-place at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, runner-up at the Genesis Scottish Open, and a tidy T7 at Royal Portrush — and it’s no surprise he’s booked in for both UAE legs of the Tour finale.

Dubai, it seems, isn’t just another stop on the map for Rory. “Dubai has always been a special place for me,” he added. “Winning both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai last year was an incredible way to finish the season. To equal Seve’s record made it even more special.”

And he’s not done yet. With a fourth consecutive Race to Dubai title and a seventh Harry Vardon Trophy within reach, the stakes in Dubai couldn’t be higher.

WHOOP! There It Is

To mark 100 days to go until the DP World Tour Championship tees off, WHOOP — the wearable tech brand favoured by players who want to train like Navy SEALs and sleep like monks — is offering fans a free one-month trial. Every ticket buyer will receive the offer by email after purchase. All the better to track your stress levels when McIlroy stiffens a 3-iron to five feet on 18.

The Play-Off Picture

Before the final showdown in Dubai, McIlroy will tee it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship — the first of the DP World Tour Play-Offs.

The top 70 players following the Back 9 events will battle it out in the UAE, with the top 50 earning the right to stride down the Earth Course fairways and chase golf’s golden carrot.

Free general admission tickets for Thursday and Friday are now live at dpwtc.com, with fans being offered up to 40% off weekend and Ticket+ passes if they get in before September. Yes, you can still watch world-class golf without having to sell a kidney.

More Than Just Golf

The DP World Tour Championship is about more than just fairways and flags. It’s a festival of sport and entertainment rolled into one sun-drenched desert package.

There’ll be trick-shot shows, Ladies Day events, big screens, interactive golf lessons for all ages, and — of course — the buzzing Championship Village that feels more like a summer carnival than a golf tournament.

Premium ticket holders can lounge in the Earth Lounge or the Championship Chalet — one with a panoramic view of the 16th green, the other with front-row seats to the climax on 18. Meanwhile, Ticket+ holders can skip the queues and sip something chilled on a shaded platform by the 17th green. Bliss.

So whether you’re there to cheer on Rory, watch Hatton boil over in glorious slow motion, or simply enjoy a world-class weekend in the Dubai sun, the DP World Tour Championship is shaping up to be a showstopper.
