Heritage Le Telfair Wins Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Hotel as Mauritius Makes Its Case for a Two-Course Escape

The Bel Ombre resort has collected another international honour, but for travelling golfers, the real attraction lies in two championship courses offering very different ways to enjoy the game.

A golf holiday is usually a balancing act. You want a course worth travelling for, a hotel that makes the trip feel like a holiday, and preferably enough variety to avoid spending every round retracing your steps.

In Mauritius, Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort has a rather persuasive answer: two championship golf courses, a five-star beachfront setting and, as it turns out, another trophy for the cabinet.

The Bel Ombre property has been named Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Hotel at the 2026 World Golf Awards, adding a hospitality honour to a collection of golfing accolades already associated with Heritage Resorts & Golf.

For golfers considering Mauritius, though, it is the pairing of La Réserve Golf Links and Le Château Golf Course that makes this particular resort worth a closer look.

Two Golf Courses, Two Very Different Challenges

The attraction of having two courses available during a golf holiday is fairly obvious. The appeal becomes greater when those courses offer contrasting surroundings and styles of play.

La Réserve Golf Links provides the more unusual proposition.

Set alongside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, it is described by Heritage as the Indian Ocean’s only contemporary links course, bringing a links-style golfing experience to a destination better known for its tropical scenery.

Designed as a championship layout, La Réserve has already attracted international recognition. American golf publication Golfweek has included it among its Top 30 International Courses outside the United States, while the course was named World’s Best New Golf Course at the 2024 World Golf Awards.

There is an environmental distinction, too. According to Heritage, La Réserve became the first golf course development in the African region to achieve GEO Certified® Development Status, recognising its approach to environmental responsibility during development.

Its sister course, Le Château Golf Course, offers a different setting altogether.

Rather than the contemporary links character of La Réserve, Le Château is a parkland course woven through the landscaped grounds of a 19th-century château.

It has also achieved GEO Certified® status and has established its own reputation within Indian Ocean golf.

For visiting players, that contrast is arguably more interesting than another entry on an awards list. One destination, two distinctly different courses and the opportunity to experience both during the same trip.

A Golf Hotel With More Than Tee Times on Its Mind

Of course, even the most committed golfer eventually has to leave the fairways.

Heritage Le Telfair, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, combines its golf offering with beachfront accommodation, dining and spa facilities.

Among its wellness treatments is the Heritage Signature Golf Massage, designed specifically for golfers looking to unwind after a round.

It is a sensible addition to a resort built around golf. After several hours negotiating a championship course, a little time away from the game is hardly an unreasonable request.

Raoul Maurel, Chief Operations Officer at Heritage Resorts & Golf, credited the resort’s team for the World Golf Awards recognition, highlighting the company’s ambition to provide an experience extending beyond the traditional golf hotel stay.

The award recognises the hospitality side of that offering rather than the quality of either course in isolation, an important distinction when weighing up a golfing destination.

What Golfers Should Consider Before Booking

Heritage Le Telfair’s principal advantage is its access to two established championship courses within the same resort’s golf offering.

However, anyone planning a golf break should establish exactly what that access includes before making a reservation.

Tee-time availability, green fees, course transfers and the number of rounds included in a particular accommodation package can all influence the experience and overall cost of a golf holiday.

Those details matter considerably more once the photographs have done their job and the booking decisions begin.

The latest World Golf Awards recognition gives Heritage Le Telfair another reason to feature on a Mauritius golf holiday shortlist.

But awards alone do not make a successful golf trip. The more compelling proposition here is the opportunity to divide your golf between the open character of La Réserve and the landscaped surroundings of Le Château, without having to choose between the two before you travel.
