Well, it’s official: LIV Golf is heading to the southern tip of Africa. Mark your calendars for 20-22 March 2026, when the inaugural LIV Golf South Africa will roll into Steyn City, just north of Johannesburg, in a move that finally brings the rebel league to African soil. It’s a historic first—and frankly, it’s about time.
With this latest expansion, LIV Golf is now playing on five continents, a feat few sports organisations can claim without boarding a Concorde. And this isn’t a one-and-done. It’s a multi-year commitment, a sign that LIV is digging its cleats into Africa for the long haul.
Stinger GC Takes Centre Stage

The spotlight will fall firmly on Stinger GC, LIV’s all-South African squad captained by the effortlessly cool 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, backed by fellow major winners Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace, and Dean Burmester. If ever there was a team born to light up home soil, it’s these four.
“It’s always special to compete at home,” said Oosthuizen. “For Branden, Charl, Dean and I to play in front of our fans, friends, and families will be an unforgettable experience.”
Expect them to be roared on by a crowd more raucous than a Springbok scrum.
The Global Game Comes to Joburg

Of course, the boys from Stinger won’t have the fairways to themselves. LIV Golf South Africa will welcome 54 of the game’s elite, including the booming drives of Bryson DeChambeau, the steely-eyed Brooks Koepka, and the polarising genius that is Phil Mickelson. Also confirmed: Jon Rahm, Cam Smith, Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Niemann, and Sergio Garcia. Between them, 18 major champs and 28 major titles. Not bad for a league some said wouldn’t last a season.
Ross Hallett, LIV’s Executive VP and Head of Events, didn’t hold back on the significance: “Bringing LIV Golf to South Africa is another significant moment in our journey… Today we add Africa, marking another exciting opportunity to showcase LIV Golf to a new audience and market.”
And let’s not forget the elephant in the room—or rather, just up the road.
“Visitors will truly feel that they are in Africa,” added Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, “with access to a Big 5 reserve with lions and elephants – Dinokeng – less than an hour’s drive from Steyn City.”
Only LIV would serve up Sunday golf with a side of safari.
The Course: Pure Nicklaus Theatre
The Club at Steyn City, a shimmering, manicured marvel courtesy of Nicklaus Design, will host the spectacle. With dramatic scenery and a championship pedigree, it’s a course built to test nerve and precision in equal measure—and to look damned good on TV.
The setting is as much part of the sell as the sport. “We are enormously proud to showcase Johannesburg and South Africa on the global stage,” said Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties. “This is our chance to shine.”
Music, Mayhem, and Market Disruption
It wouldn’t be a LIV event without a little razzmatazz. Expect post-round concerts, family fun zones, food, drink, and whatever else they can squeeze into a three-day festival.
The entertainment lineup is still under wraps, but if past events are anything to go by, it’ll have enough wattage to make the 9th green blush.
And if you’re eager to get in early, early bird tickets for LIV Golf South Africa are already on sale at LIVGolf.com/southafrica2026, including Club 54 Hospitality and ground passes. Consider it your golden ticket to a festival of sport, music, and mild sunburn.
More Than a Game
McKenzie, never one to mince words, framed the event as a national opportunity.
“This will be a proud moment for our nation, showcasing our vibrant sports culture and world-class hospitality to a global audience… No LIV event will be anything like this one.”
He went a step further, calling for other global sports to take a cue from LIV: “From Formula One to the Summer Olympics… we want Africa represented.”
He also praised LIV’s pledge to reinvest in host nations, adding, “We are excited to work with LIV Golf’s team to deliver a festival of sport and culture that will inspire fans, boost tourism, and create lasting opportunities for our communities.”
The Global Calendar Expands
The announcement of LIV Golf South Africa follows hot on the heels of 2026 date confirmations for LIV Golf UK and LIV Golf Adelaide, further proof of the league’s commitment to pushing boundaries—and buttons. More destinations are expected to follow.
And for fans unable to make the trip to Joburg, all 14 LIV events will be broadcast live across South Africa on SuperSport, beaming the action into millions of homes.
So here it is: Africa joins the LIV revolution. The golfers are coming. The music’s on its way. The elephants are watching.
Now the only thing left to do is show up, cheer loud, and maybe bring a pair of binoculars—just in case a lion decides to join the leaderboard.
