The 2027 TGL season has no intention of waiting for 2027.
On Sunday 27 December, while much of the world is still negotiating Christmas leftovers and the television remote, golf’s indoor team competition will return with a double-header featuring some familiar names, one entirely new team and a little unfinished business.
Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf will welcome Brooks Koepka’s Motor City Golf Club into the competition before Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club faces reigning champion Los Angeles Golf Club in a repeat of the 2026 Finals.
It is quite a way to fill a Sunday afternoon. Or, for those watching from Britain, a Sunday evening.
TGL 2027 Opening Matches: Two Fixtures, Plenty of Familiar Faces

The season begins at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with Boston Common Golf taking on Motor City Golf Club at 1 pm Eastern Time, which translates to 6 pm GMT.
ESPN will broadcast the opener in the United States, with Motor City becoming the seventh team in the competition and the first expansion franchise to join TGL.
Koepka headlines a five-man squad featuring Jackson Koivun, Jake Knapp, Si Woo Kim and Bud Cauley. It is a substantial collection of talent for a club making its first appearance, although the three players selected for the opening match have yet to be specified.
The second contest begins at 3 pm ET (8 pm GMT), with ABC broadcasting Los Angeles Golf Club against Jupiter Links Golf Club.
Los Angeles enters as defending SoFi Cup champion, having beaten Jupiter in the previous season’s Finals.
Its roster includes Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Sahith Theegala and newcomer Ben James.
For Woods’ Jupiter team, the fixture offers an immediate opportunity to revisit last season’s deciding matchup. Whether Woods himself features in the three-player line-up remains to be confirmed.
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry Reunite as TGL Rosters Expand
Motor City’s arrival is only part of the personnel shake-up.
Boston Common Golf has reunited Ryder Cup teammates Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, with Lowry joining following a trade from The Bay Golf Club.
Their familiarity gives Boston an interesting storyline heading into the new campaign, although friendship and Ryder Cup experience will still have to translate into results in TGL’s rather different competitive setting.
There is a family connection elsewhere.
Brothers Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick will represent New York Golf Club together, alongside Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler and newcomer Ben Griffin.
Across the competition, teams now carry five-player rosters, giving them greater freedom to select the three golfers who compete in individual matches.
That matters over a season in which team selection can change from fixture to fixture. A bigger squad means more options, without increasing the number of players competing for each side on match day.
The league says 20 of its original 24 players remain involved, while three former alternates have become full-time squad members and 12 players are preparing for their TGL debuts.
For a competition entering its third season, that represents a sizeable refresh without abandoning the recognisable names around which it was built.
A New Play-In Match Changes the Road to the SoFi Cup
The 2027 schedule features 14 regular-season matches, but the more significant structural change comes after those fixtures have finished.
Rather than relying solely on the existing route into the semi-finals, TGL is introducing a play-in match to determine the fourth play-off participant.
The top three teams in the SoFi Cup Standings will qualify for the semi-finals, where they will be joined by the play-in winner.
Two semi-final matches will then decide which teams progress to the best-of-three Finals for the SoFi Cup.
It gives the competition an additional knockout fixture and another opportunity for a team outside the automatic qualifying places to keep its season alive.
There is also a noticeable change to the television schedule.
Three matches will air on ABC during the 2027 campaign, compared with one in 2026 and none during TGL’s inaugural 2025 season.
ESPN and TMRW Sports have also confirmed a greater spread of weekend fixtures, daytime broadcasts and earlier evening starts.
The organisers say the changes are intended to make the competition more accessible to younger audiences and international viewers.
For British fans, the opening double-header illustrates the advantage. A 6 pm start followed by an 8 pm match is considerably easier to accommodate than watching American primetime golf into the early hours.
ESPN and ABC are the confirmed US broadcasters. The announcement does not specify UK television or streaming arrangements.
TGL 2027 Tickets: When Do They Go on Sale?
Supporters hoping to attend matches at the SoFi Center can register for presale access through the official TGL website.
The ticket presale opens on Tuesday 27 October 2026, with general public sales beginning on Wednesday 4 November at 10 am ET (3 pm GMT).
Registration and ticket information are available at TGLGolf.com/tickets.
With seven teams, expanded squads, a new play-in fixture and more weekend television exposure, TGL is making several changes for its third season.
Whether those changes produce a closer title race will only become clear once the golf begins.
For now, the immediate attraction is straightforward: a new team, a rematch between last season’s finalists and an opening night that British viewers can follow without sacrificing quite so much sleep.
The calendar may still say 2026, but TGL is already looking ahead.
