Motocaddy has spent more than two decades building its reputation in the electric golf trolley market. Now the company has a new owner, with American investment and a bigger presence in North America firmly on the agenda.

US-based private equity firm Corbel Capital Partners has acquired Motocaddy from ETHOS Partners, bringing a change of ownership to one of golf’s established equipment brands.

The deal follows a period in which Motocaddy says both its revenue and EBITDA — earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation — more than doubled under ETHOS Partners’ ownership.

For a business founded in 2004, it represents another significant stage in its international development.

Although Motocaddy already has an established presence across the UK, Ireland and Europe, North America is a particular focus for its new owners.

The company has invested heavily in product development, technology, distribution and sales infrastructure in recent years, helping establish its position across major golfing markets.

Under Corbel Capital Partners, that expansion is expected to continue, with the United States among the principal targets alongside Australia and other international markets.

Christian Hostetter, Principal at Corbel, made the firm’s ambitions clear.

“Motocaddy is the clear category leader, with a loyal customer base, a strong pipeline of new products and significant room to grow in North America. We are delighted to partner with John and the team and look forward to supporting the business through its next phase of growth.”

The emphasis on North America is particularly noteworthy. Motocaddy has already identified the US as strategically important, and its new American ownership puts that market at the centre of the next phase of growth.

Familiar Faces Remain at the Helm

Despite the change in ownership, there will be continuity at the top.

Motocaddy’s existing management team will remain in place, with CEO John Helas and CFO Richard Inglis also taking seats on the company’s new board.

Helas believes the foundations established under ETHOS Partners have put the business in a strong position for what comes next.

“We are extremely proud of what Motocaddy has achieved over recent years. The growth delivered during ETHOS Partners’ ownership is testament to the strength of our brand, our products and, importantly, our people.

“Corbel Capital Partners represents an exciting next step for the business. We have established a strong international platform, with significant opportunities still ahead of us. We look forward to working with Corbel to build on our success and take Motocaddy to even greater heights.

“Importantly, our existing management team remains firmly in place, providing the continuity and experience needed to deliver our ambitions while continuing to serve our customers and partners around the world.”

What the Acquisition Means for Motocaddy

The immediate significance of the deal lies in Motocaddy’s ownership and international ambitions rather than any announced change to its existing product range.

Keeping the management team in place provides continuity, while Corbel’s investment gives Motocaddy a new ownership structure as it pursues opportunities beyond its established European markets.

There is also the question of what further expansion might mean for the company’s equipment portfolio. Corbel has highlighted Motocaddy’s pipeline of new products, although no specific launches or development plans have been detailed as part of the announcement.

For now, the direction is clear enough. Motocaddy wants to build on its established markets while growing its presence in North America and beyond.

The people running the business remain the same. The ownership has changed, and so has the financial partner backing its international ambitions.
